Job description

As our Software Engineer In Test (SDET Engineer), youโ€™ll own and evolve our automated test architecture across FairComโ€™s core platforms by implementing tests to verify software functionality and performance. You will collaborate with developers to identify software issues, develop automated test plans, and ensure the highest quality standards are met. Your contributions will be crucial to delivering reliable and efficient software products.

*This is an in-office position with opportunities for a hybrid schedule post-onboarding.

The Day-to-Day:

  • Own automated regression coverage targets.
  • Define and track quality KPIs (escape rate, flake rate, mean time to detect).
  • Block releases when quality thresholds are not met.
  • Modify gating logic and failure policies and coordinate pipeline design reviews.
  • Will conduct performance and scalability validation, data correctness across replication, sync, and edge scenarios, and failure-mode testing (network loss, partial writes, crash recovery).
  • Design and implement robust automation test frameworks that support continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines, enabling efficient and reliable regression testing.
  • Lead root-cause analysis of complex defects and partner with engineering to improve product stability and testability.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Product, and related teams to ensure high-quality releases.
  • Ensure software meets performance and quality standards.
  • Create, manage, and track defects, test cases, and test cycles within Jira, ensuring clear and concise documentation of issues and test progress for development and product teams.
  • Conduct regular code reviews throughout active sprints and ensure the testability of the code.
  • Continuously improve test automation practices and processes.
  • Update and create YAML configuration files used in automation workflows.
  • Contribute to and/or review technical documentation to help describe program development, logic, coding, testing, changes, and corrections.
  • Acquire and maintain an in-depth understanding of the technical and functional architecture, security, and compliance requirements of assigned software systems and integrations.

Requirements

  • 3โ€“6+ years in software engineering or SDET roles with significant automation ownership.
  • A technical bachelor's degree or equivalent on-the-job experience in Software Development.
  • Ability to design, review, and maintain high-quality automation code and frameworks.
  • Strong coding skills (e.g., Python, Java, etc.) and ability to build maintainable automation code.
  • Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines, working with modern DevOps workflows, and proficiency with YAML templates.
  • Proficiency with version control systems (Git) and collaborative development practices (pull requests, code reviews).
  • Basic understanding of JIRA and Agile methodologies.
  • Advanced troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Sound understanding of how DBMS works as it pertains to SQL (relational) and NoSQL (non-relational) data models.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ideal Tech Stack: Java, Python, CI/CD, Git, CMAKE, YAML, & automation tools (maven/gradle).
  • Experience with API, protocol, and data-layer testing in complex or distributed systems.
  • Strong preference for system-level and service-level automation over UI-only testing.
  • UI automation tools (e.g., Selenium, BrowserStack), used judiciously rather than as a primary strategy.
  • Experience building or leveraging testability hooks, mocks, simulators, and test harnesses.
  • Background testing databases, data pipelines, edge systems, or embedded platforms is a plus.
  • Experience working with IoT / IIoT and Raspberry Pi is a plus.
