Job description

Illinois Alarm Service is seeking a dedicated Installation Technician to support the continued growth and technical excellence of our organization. This is a key field position for a professional who is dependable, technically capable, detail-oriented, and motivated to perform at a high standard.

We are a fast-paced, service-driven life-safety and security company. The right candidate will view this role not as temporary employment, but as an opportunity to build a long-term career in an organization committed to accountability, professionalism, and operational excellence.

This role directly impacts life-safety and security systems that protect people, property, and communities every day.

About Us

Illinois Alarm Service is one of the few remaining family-owned and operated companies in the life-safety and security industry. For decades, we have built our reputation on trust, accountability, and long-term relationships with our subscribers and partners.

Our family-owned structure allows us to move quickly, make thoughtful decisions, and maintain high service standards without corporate red tape. Team members are valued, supported, and expected to take pride in their work. Many of our employees build long-term careers here—not just jobs.

We value long-term team members and provide opportunities for increased responsibility as the company continues to grow.

Key Responsibilities

This role supports installation and field operations, including but not limited to:

• Installation of fire alarm, intrusion alarm, CCTV, access control, and related low-voltage systems
• Mounting panels, devices, conduit, and associated hardware
• Reading and interpreting blueprints, riser diagrams, and wiring schematics
• Understanding and applying AC and DC electrical principles during installation and troubleshooting
• Ensuring installations meet applicable codes and AHJ requirements
• Maintaining clean, organized, and professional job sites
• Completing accurate documentation, device lists, and close-out materials
• Coordinating with Project Managers, office staff, and other trades
• Participating in scheduled on-call rotations and responding to after-hours subscriber service requests when assigned
• Maintaining company vehicles, tools, lifts, and issued equipment in proper working order

What We’re Looking For

• Strong technical aptitude and working knowledge of AC and DC current, voltage, resistance, and proper meter usage
• Ability to read and follow construction drawings and system specifications
• Consistent attendance and daily reliability
• Ability to manage time efficiently and complete work without constant supervision
• Professional communication with subscribers, inspectors, and coworkers
• Willingness to participate in on-call rotations and respond when scheduled
• Valid Illinois driver’s license with acceptable driving record
• Ability to pass a criminal background check
• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a valid Illinois PERC card

What Success Looks Like in This Role

• Installations are completed accurately, cleanly, and in compliance with code
• Jobs are organized and professionally executed
• Documentation is complete and audit-ready
• Vehicles and equipment are properly maintained
• On-call assignments are handled responsibly and professionally
• Leadership can rely on you to follow through without reminders

Who This Role May Not Be the Best Fit For

This position may not be the right match for individuals who:

• Prefer a slow-paced or lightly supervised environment
• Struggle with punctuality or consistent attendance
• Prefer narrowly defined job duties without flexibility
• Are uncomfortable working in construction environments
• Are unwilling to participate in after-hours on-call rotation
• Are not comfortable working at heights or lifting materials

This role is best suited for someone who takes pride in craftsmanship, dependability, and long-term career growth within a structured and accountable organization.

Preferred Experience

• Minimum two (2) years of low-voltage installation experience
• Commercial fire alarm installation experience
• Access control and IP-based CCTV experience
• NICET Certification (Fire Alarm Systems preferred)
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
• Lift certification
• Manufacturer certifications

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry materials up to 50 pounds
• Ability to climb ladders and work at elevated heights
• Ability to operate scissor lifts and other approved lifting equipment
• Ability to drive company vehicles in all weather conditions
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in construction environments
• Ability to bend, kneel, climb, and perform overhead work

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals to perform essential job functions.

Employment Eligibility Requirements

• Must currently hold, or be able to obtain, a valid Illinois Permanent Employee Registration Card (PERC)
• Must successfully pass a criminal background check as required by state law and company policy
• Employment is contingent upon meeting all applicable state licensing and regulatory requirements

Work Schedule & Expectations

• Primary schedule: Monday through Friday
• Start times may vary based on jobsite requirements
• Participation in scheduled on-call rotation is required
• Occasional overtime required based on project demands
• Professionalism, reliability, and accountability are essential

Compensation & Benefits

• Competitive compensation based on experience
• Overtime opportunities
• Benefits Eligibility:
Health, dental, vision, and life insurance benefits become available after successful completion of the 90-day probationary period

• Health Insurance Options (available after 90 days):
Four (4) Blue Cross Blue Shield plans
Three (3) PPO options and one (1) HMO
Illinois Alarm contributes $500.00 per month toward health insurance premium

• Life Insurance (available after 90 days):

• Paid Time Off (PTO):
Five (5) days of PTO issued on day one of employment in accordance with Illinois law

• Vacation:
Five (5) paid vacation days available after one (1) year of employment

Benefits eligibility and terms are subject to plan provisions and may vary based on position, experience, and business needs.
