Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assists in the repair of fire alarm equipment on campus. Ensures fire alarm and fire protection systems code compliance
- Assists in testing and service of fire protection and fire alarm systems on campus. Coordinates with building managers, third party inspectors, and relevant campus departments
- Tests and services fire pumps on a weekly basis in accordance with relevant rules and regulations
- Reviews new construction and renovation plans and specifications for fire alarm quality control
- Assists Project Managers with technical support and contractors with installation and removal of fire alarm and fire protection equipment
- Supports campus safety departments with fire alarm and fire protection systems
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Knowledge of fire alarm equipment and Fire Alarm Control Panels (FACP)
- Knowledge of basic office computer software such as Microsoft Office
- Skill in computerized equipment and control systems such as Simplex fire system environment, Siemens fire system environment, and ALC WebCntl (Automated Logic Corporation web-based building automation system)
- Skill in written and verbal communications
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Ability to use meters to measure volts, amps, ohms, along with tools associated with electronic repairs

- High School diploma or GED
- No experience required

Schedule
The schedule for this position could encompass various shifts, weekends, holidays, and times other than normal work schedules. The successful candidate must provide contact information to be used for an on-call phone listing for reporting to work in off hours or urgent situations such as extreme weather conditions including when the campus is closed.
Driver's License Requirements
The successful candidate will be required to drive on occasion and must, upon hire, immediately enroll in the New York State License Event Notification Service (NYS LENS) program. Candidates may refer to RIT's Vehicle and Driver Safety Procedures for additional information.
