Job description

Wharton-Smith, Inc., a highly regarded construction company, is seeking qualified candidates for a Preconstruction Sitework Estimator position. This position is located in our Corporate office in Sanford, FL.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Ability to read and review drawings, specifications, geotechnical reports and other design criteria reports
  • Perform quantity take-off of all sitework components, requiring quantity counts, measurements and determining material types
  • Calculating labor and equipment costs for self performed work for all types of jobsite conditions
  • Ability to identify risks including utility conflicts, dewatering needs, excavation protection and other temporary measures needed for a complete sitework estimate
  • Solicit Subcontractor/Supplier participation via phone and/or E-mail.
  • Developing and maintaining long term beneficial relationships with key vendors and subcontractors
  • Proficient in scope analysis and ability to estimate deficiencies as needed
  • Projects ranging from 4 Million to 400 Million with hard deadlines and must be able to multi-task efficiently.
  • Attend Pre-Bid Meetings as needed.
  • Writing RFI's along with clarifications and assumptions.

Preferences/Qualifications:
  • 3-4 years of sitework estimating or similar field experience.
  • Previous experience with hard bid Municipal utility projects is a plus.
  • Ability to understand construction terminology.
  • Strong communication, teamwork and organizational skills are required.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office, Planswift/OST take-off programs and ability to learn internal estimating software are required.
  • Valid Driver License and ability to commute to job sites.
