Description and Functions

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is seeking multiple Temporary Construction Technicians in and around the Rock Springs area to perform basic construction tasks under supervision to provide a safe and effective transportation system. This is a temporary, full-time position that could last up to 6 months.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.
  • Construction tasks include performing basic lab tests and survey procedures.
  • Perform construction inspections.
  • Prepare and check computations and data.

Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Preference may be given to individuals who can perform algebraic calculations.
KNOWLEDGE:
  • Knowledge of materials testing.
  • Knowledge of surveying methods and equipment operations.
  • Knowledge of construction inspection, which includes interpretation of plans and specifications.
  • Skill in the use of computers.
  • Strong math skills are required.
  • Ability to perform algebraic calculations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Necessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • This position requires working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Individuals in this classification must be available for emergency work calls at any time, including nights, weekends, and holidays, with a response time of no greater than 30 minutes. Acceptance of an appointment to this classification signifies that the individual is aware of this requirement and will comply with it.
