  • 40 hours/week, 12 Month Assignment

A leading biotechnology company is seeking a Robotics Automation Engineer to support the design, prototyping, testing, and development of advanced robotic and automation systems for next-generation laboratory and pathology applications. This role combines expertise in robotics, mechatronics, motion control, machine vision, and system integration to develop innovative automation solutions in a fast-paced research and development environment.

Robotics Automation Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, prototype, and test robotic, mechatronic, and automation systems, applying engineering principles to support research initiatives, process automation, system integration, and new product development projects.
  • Perform simulations, experiments, analyses, and validation testing to evaluate system performance, troubleshoot technical challenges, and refine designs through iterative development and user feedback.
  • Develop and integrate mechanical, electrical, software, motion control, sensing, machine vision, and industrial communication components into prototype systems that meet project objectives and performance requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering and research teams to support project planning, concept development, technical reviews, patentable innovations, presentations, and the successful execution of agile development activities.
  • Create technical documentation, communicate project results to diverse stakeholders, and contribute engineering expertise toward the advancement of laboratory automation and diagnostic technologies.

Robotics Automation Engineer Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline; OR
  • 4+ years of relevant experience with a Master's degree in a related discipline; OR
  • 2+ years of relevant experience with a PhD in a related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of robotics, mechatronics, motion control systems, sensing technologies, coordinate systems, and automation engineering principles.
  • Hands-on experience designing, assembling, troubleshooting, and testing robotic or automation systems.
  • Experience with mechanical, electrical, and software prototyping.
  • Experience with robot programming and simulation software, preferably ABB RobotStudio.
  • Experience with motion control technologies, including servo systems, stepper motors, encoders, feedback systems, and positioning controls.
  • Experience with machine vision systems for object detection, robot guidance, inspection, or automation applications.
  • Experience with electronic and industrial control systems, including PID control, PLCs, and industrial automation controls.
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols such as EtherCAT, Profinet, Profibus, RS-485, or similar technologies.
  • Experience with CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.
  • Experience with industrial networking, TCP/IP, switches, routers, or Fortinet technologies is preferred.
  • Experience with robotic calibration using machine vision technologies such as fiducials, ArUco tags, or AprilTags is preferred.
  • Experience within diagnostics, laboratory automation, pathology, or healthcare technology environments is preferred.
