What is a temporary recruiter?

Temporary recruiters are human resources professionals who are hired on a short-term basis to assist organizations with their hiring needs. They may work as part of a staffing agency or be brought in directly by companies during periods of high recruitment activity, such as seasonal hiring or rapid expansion. Their responsibilities typically include sourcing candidates, screening resumes, conducting interviews, and coordinating the hiring process, all within a set contract period. Temporary recruiters help companies efficiently fill positions without the commitment of hiring a permanent HR staff member. They bring flexibility and expertise to organizations looking to quickly scale or manage fluctuating recruitment demands.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a temporary recruiter?

To thrive as a Temporary Recruiter, you need a solid understanding of talent acquisition, candidate screening, and employment law, usually supported by experience in recruiting or HR. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), HRIS platforms, and sourcing tools like LinkedIn Recruiter is typically required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, adaptability, and strong organizational abilities help build relationships with both candidates and hiring managers. These skills ensure efficient hiring processes, effective candidate placement, and the ability to quickly meet organizational staffing needs.

How does a temporary recruiter typically collaborate with hiring managers during the recruitment process?

As a Temporary Recruiter, you will work closely with hiring managers to understand their specific talent needs and the nuances of each open position. This collaboration often involves regular check-ins to review candidate pipelines, discuss feedback from interviews, and adjust sourcing strategies as needed. Effective communication and responsiveness are key, as the fast-paced nature of temporary recruitment requires quick turnarounds and alignment with the hiring team's expectations. Building trust and maintaining transparency with hiring managers helps ensure successful placements within tight deadlines.

TEMP Boston, MA, US

Temporary Recruiter / Talent Acquisition Partner- Remote

Our Organization

CDP, a Boston-based public benefit corporation, uses the collaborative fundraising model to improve the operational efficiency and revenue generation capacity of the public media system. CDP currently provides more than 230 NPR and PBS public media organizations with outsourced marketing, data analytics, fundraising, and technology services. Since its inception, CDP has delivered more than $1 billion in membership revenue for local stations and has become the most widely adopted public media service in the history of public media.

Just as CDP is committed to supporting public media organizations around the country, we are equally committed to supporting the growth and success of our own employees. We are a remote-first organization that values collaboration, accountability, innovation, and inclusion.

Position Overview

CDP is looking for a full time temporary role (approx. 3 months) to assist with hiring this fall. Reporting to the Chief People Officer, and partnering with CDP’s Sr. Manager of People Operations, the Recruiter / Talent Acquisition Partner will serve as an essential driver of CDP's recruitment process from workforce planning through offer acceptance and onboarding. This role partners closely with hiring managers and organizational leaders to identify talent needs, build diverse candidate pipelines, deliver an exceptional candidate experience, and ensure hiring decisions align with CDP's values, culture, and strategic priorities.

This is a hands‑on role for someone who enjoys both the strategic and operational sides of recruiting. The ideal candidate is an exceptional talent identifier, relationship builder, and project manager who can proactively source talent while guiding managers through efficient, equitable, and data‑driven hiring processes.

How You'll Contribute
  • Partner with hiring managers and People Operations to understand hiring needs, organizational priorities, and workforce planning objectives.
  • Consult with leaders on position design, job descriptions, compensation alignment, and recruiting strategies.
  • Develop sourcing approaches tailored to the unique talent markets for nonprofit, technology, fundraising, marketing, analytics, and corporate functions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve hiring effectiveness and reduce time‑to‑fill while maintaining candidate quality.
Full‑Lifecycle Recruitment
  • Lead and manage all aspects of the recruiting process from requisition approval through offer acceptance.
  • Conduct intake meetings with hiring managers to establish search strategies, competencies, and selection criteria.
  • Build and maintain active candidate pipelines for both current and future openings.
  • Screen applications, conduct initial interviews, and present qualified candidates to hiring teams.
  • Coordinate interview processes, evaluations, feedback collection, and offer development.
  • Facilitate candidate communications throughout the process to ensure a high‑quality candidate experience.
Sourcing & Talent Engagement
  • Actively source and engage passive candidates through LinkedIn, professional networks, referrals, industry associations, and other channels.
  • Build relationships within talent communities to strengthen CDP’s employer brand and future talent pipelines.
  • Develop creative sourcing strategies for difficult‑to‑fill roles.
  • Maintain an ongoing pipeline of high‑potential candidates for key and recurring positions.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to managers on interviewing, candidate assessment, selection decisions, and market conditions.
  • Train and coach interview teams on effective and equitable hiring practices.
  • Facilitate structured interview processes that help reduce bias and improve decision quality.
  • Ensure hiring decisions align with organizational values, competencies, and business needs.
Candidate Experience & Employer Brand
  • Create a welcoming, responsive, and transparent experience for candidates throughout the hiring journey.
  • Represent CDP’s mission, culture, and employee value proposition to prospective employees.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen CDP’s employer brand and talent attraction strategies.
  • Gather candidate feedback and recommend improvements to recruiting processes and communications.
Recruiting Operations & Analytics
  • Manage applicant tracking systems, recruiting workflows, and candidate records.
  • Maintain accurate recruiting data and reporting.
  • Monitor recruiting metrics including pipeline health, time‑to‑fill, source effectiveness, candidate conversion rates, and diversity indicators.
  • Provide recruiting updates and insights to leaders and the People Team.
Onboarding & Transition Support
  • Partner with People Operations to facilitate smooth new hire onboarding experiences.
  • Ensure effective transition from candidate to employee.
  • Support pre‑boarding activities and orientation processes.
  • Gather feedback from new hires to continuously improve the onboarding experience.
Experience & Skills
  • 5+ years of full‑cycle recruiting experience, ideally supporting multiple functions and levels within a growing organization.
  • Proven success sourcing and recruiting passive candidates across professional, technical, and business roles.
  • Strong interviewing and talent assessment skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and partner with hiring managers and senior leaders.
  • Experience managing multiple searches simultaneously while maintaining a high‑quality candidate experience.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to analyze recruiting data and use insights to improve outcomes.
  • Experience utilizing applicant tracking systems and recruiting technologies.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively across teams.
  • Familiarity with employment practices and hiring compliance requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience recruiting within mission‑driven, nonprofit, technology, media, consulting, or professional services organizations.
  • Experience supporting diversity‑focused sourcing and inclusive hiring initiatives.

  • Knowledge of compensation benchmarking and offer development practices.
