KLS Earthworks is seeking an experienced and driven Project Manager to lead earthworks and underground utility projects throughout Calgary and surrounding areas. Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing projects from pre-construction through closeout, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.


This role is ideal for a proactive leader who enjoys solving complex challenges, building strong client relationships, and collaborating with field operations teams to deliver successful projects.


KLS Earthworks is a leading civil construction contractor specializing in earthworks, underground utilities, and infrastructure development. We pride ourselves on delivering high-quality projects while maintaining our commitment to safety, integrity, and exceptional client service.


What Youll Do

Project Leadership & Delivery

  • Lead projects from award through completion, ensuring successful execution of scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety requirements.
  • Coordinate with clients, consultants, engineers, municipalities, utility providers, regulatory authorities, and internal teams.
  • Develop, maintain, and monitor detailed project schedules, including short-term and look-ahead planning.
  • Facilitate project handover meetings and ensure project teams are aligned on scope, objectives, and contract requirements.
  • Manage project closeout activities, including deficiency resolution, documentation, and client turnover.

Financial & Contract Management

  • Monitor project costs, productivity, and forecasting to support profitability targets.
  • Review, evaluate, and negotiate subcontractor and supplier pricing.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings, process improvements, and risk mitigation.
  • Support change management, progress billing, and contract administration activities.

Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, and municipal representatives.
  • Lead project communications and provide timely updates to stakeholders.
  • Proactively address project challenges and implement solutions that support project success and client satisfaction.

Safety & Risk Management

  • Promote and support KLS's commitment to safety excellence.
  • Identify project risks early and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure project execution aligns with company policies, contract requirements, and regulatory standards.


Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum 5 years of project management experience in earthworks, civil construction, or underground utility projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction scheduling, budgeting, cost control, and contract administration.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License.

Preferred

  • Experience obtaining City of Calgary permits, approvals, and indemnifications.
  • Experience coordinating temporary utility shutdowns and public notifications.
  • Experience with HeavyBid, HeavyJob, Vista Viewpoint, or similar construction management software.
  • Diploma or degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering Technology, Project Management, or a related field.
