HX5 is currently seeking a Project Engineer (Exercise) to help us achieve great things that inspire people all over the globe. We need you to bring creative ideas and diverse backgrounds to help us envision, shape, and deliver systems that will enable the exploration of space while benefiting people here on Earth. As NASA's largest engineering solutions provider working together with NASA at centers across the United States.
*This position is temporary and is not to exceed 6 months
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Generate essential paperwork and documents for tasks assigned, such as Task Performance Sheets (TPS), Discrepancy Reports (DR), and Detailed Test Procedures (DTP), as needed.
  • Maintain and ensure baseline test configuration and document any configuration changes.
  • Generate assembly and test procedures.
  • Assemble and test hardware.
  • Perform hardware troubleshooting to investigate mechanical and electrical failures within flight hardware or test support hardware, and rework as necessary.
  • Design, assemble, and evaluate test fixtures as necessary.
  • Coordinate with test facilities and generate documentation for external tests (i.e. EMI, Acoustic, Vibration, Thermal Cycle).
  • Place and carefully track progress of procurements.
  • Generate verification documentation and review design memos, test reports, etc.
  • Work with NASA Engineering to manage the assessment of certification products.
  • Prepare flight articles for launch and coordinate flight logistics.
  • Work in a team environment, and report to project lead or project manager for technical support, task assignment, and processes.
  • Facilitate across various stakeholders to achieve integration of program objectives.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with the NASA customer and other NASA support contractors.
  • Perform job functions based on pre-established guidelines or instructions.
  • Perform other duties as required.
    Education and Experience:
    This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.
  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree in engineering and a minimum of 2- 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school.
  • Experience with test procedure development.
  • Must be able to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and schedules with limited supervision.
  • Self-motivated, team player and adaptable to a dynamic environment and the ability to complete all assignments as required.
  • Prior experience with hardware anomaly troubleshooting and failure analysis.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and will be expected to effectively interact with customers and management at all levels.
  • Ability to prepare written documents.
  • Familiarity with common hand tools and proficiency using them to perform assembly, disassembly, and troubleshooting on mechanical systems.
  • Must have the ability to visualize and work with complex mechanical/electrical systems and work with others in problem solving as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products.
    Preferences:
  • Familiar with Johnson Space Center (JSC) organizations, processes, and procedures.
  • Experience with hardware processing for spaceflight.
  • Previous intern experience at JSC or other NASA center.
  • Familiarity with the Engineering Life Cycle process.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
  • This is a full-time position and offers a 9/80 work schedule (every other Friday off).

Other Position Requirements:
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.
  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
  • Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised.
