Job description

Pay Range: $17.55-$18.89 Hourly | Monday-Friday | 8:00AM-4:30PM | Labor Day

This position is a TEMPORARY, grant-funded role for until September 30th, 2027.

Job Purpose or Objective(s): The Prairie and Bison Technician will support the daily operations, maintenance, and educational programming of the Historic Preservation Department 4-6 key mile  prairie remnant and Growing Hope Garden. This role assists with land stewardship activities, supports cultural and ecological programming, and helps coordinate community engagement efforts. The position works closely with leadership and team members to promote environmental awareness and cultural education.

Primary Tasks:

  1. Monitor the prairie remnant, including checking on the bison herd and reporting any safety concerns.

  2. Support basic upkeep of the prairie and Growing Hope Garden, including assisting with land management and maintenance activities.

  3. Prepare and deliver cultural and ecological programs, tours, and educational activities for guests.

  4. Engage with local communities, schools, and youth organizations to coordinate visits, tours, classes, and educational opportunities on the prairie and Growing Hope Garden.

  5. Provide support for off-site programs, events, and community outreach activities.

  6. Help create and distribute informational or promotional materials related to prairie and cultural programs.

  7. Monitor the prairie weather camera and update related website content as needed.

  8. Perform other responsibilities as may be assigned.

Required Education, Skills and Experience: 

  • Basic Choctaw cultural competency
  • Ability to speak publicly and assist with delivering programs and tours
  • Good organizational and guest service skills
  • Basic office and computer skills
  • Basic knowledge of outdoor environments, agriculture, or environmental stewardship
  • Valid Driver's License 
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds 
  • Prior experience in environmental programming or agriculture
