Position Summary

The Shift Leader is responsible for overseeing daily shipping and warehouse operations during an assigned shift. This role ensures materials and finished goods are received, stored, staged, and shipped accurately, safely, and on time. The Shift Leader also provides day-to-day leadership for shipping and warehouse team members, supports process improvements, and helps maintain an organized, efficient, and safety-focused work environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the daily operations of the shipping and receiving department during the assigned shift
  • Oversee shipping and receiving activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely movement of materials and finished goods
  • Verify shipments and related documentation to ensure the correct items and quantities are shipped and received
  • Maintain shipping, receiving, and inventory-related records and activity documents
  • Ensure materials, components, finished goods, and other items are placed in the proper storage locations
  • Maintain warehouse and storage areas in a safe, clean, organized, and orderly manner
  • Communicate and coordinate with internal departments and other shifts to remove obstacles and support smooth operations
  • Identify issues, solve problems, and support continuous improvement efforts within the department
  • Monitor work practices to ensure compliance with company procedures, safety expectations, and operational standards
  • Train, coach, direct, and motivate shipping and warehouse team members and temporary staff
  • Support performance management, accountability, and development of assigned employees
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Lead an assigned shipping/warehouse team of up to 30 employees and temporary associates
  • Provide day-to-day directions, training, coaching, and support for shift personnel

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of prior shipping, warehouse, or logistics leadership experience; manufacturing experience preferred
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical training or relevant degree preferred
  • Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and motivational skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making ability
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and manage competing priorities

Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, procedure manuals, and shipping documents
  • Ability to prepare routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees, leaders, and cross-functional partners
  • Basic to intermediate math skills, including working with whole numbers, fractions, decimals, rates, ratios, and percentages
  • Ability to solve practical problems and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong attention to detail, follow-through, and accountability
  • Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and professionalism

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Regular standing and walking throughout the shift
  • Frequent use of hands for handling materials and performing shipping and warehouse tasks
  • Frequent reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching
  • Regular reading of documents and use of computer screens
  • Frequent communication with employees and internal partners
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Work is performed in a manufacturing and warehouse environment with exposure to moving mechanical parts, vibration, temperature changes, fumes or airborne particles, and moderate to loud noise levels
