Job description

OBJECTIVE:The "GDU Lead"owns every detail that affects the gilt from the day she walks off the trailer into quarantine until the day a catheter is inserted.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Overall management of GDU including but not limited to:

  • Maximize Feed Intake
  • Feeder management - daily adjustments
  • Feed ration management
  • Water - flow and availability
  • Minimize stress events
  • Ventilation Management
  • Controller knowledge
  • Air - flow, speed, and exchange
  • Set temp vs. actual
  • Environment assessment - laying patterns, humidity, cleanliness
  • Health Management
  • Medication/vaccination schedule execution
  • Treatment identification
  • Threshold communication
  • Overall Flow Management
  • Nursery management
  • Incoming preparation
  • Intensive monitoring
  • Stocking density/square footage
  • Replacement rate, selection rate and timing
  • Weekly targets - mortality, removals, HNS
  • Inventory and Record Keeping
  • Gilt Entry Protocol - ear tagging and recording within 7 days of arrival
  • Daily movements into gestation barn, HNS events, mortality, and culls
  • Weekly inventory tracking

  • Understanding breed eligible targets.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

Depending on layout/size of farm - may cross over time/labor in gestation barn or other areas of the farm.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS

Education:High School Diploma or GED Preferred

Experience: 1 year pig experience preferred

Training:Completion of Pipestone Emerging Leader - GDU

WorkEnvironment: Agricultural swine environment in rural area

Noise levels that require hearing protection in some areas

Gestation, farrowing, and small swine care processes

Compensation, Pay & Benefits:

Benefit Package includes Paid Single Health Insurance, Family Health Coverage Available, Dental/Vision/Life/Disability Insurance, Retirement Plan and Paid Time Off. Overtime and Weekend Pay Potential!

Compensation rate of $40,000 - $65,000 per year and is commensurable with experience and barn size.Position open until filled.
