Job description

Goodyear is seeking a Development Engineer - Performance Test Driver to join our San Angelo Proving Grounds team. In this role, you'll support on-vehicle testing for tire development programs designed by Goodyear's North American Innovation Center. This is not ordinary driving or a traditional desk engineering position; you'll spend much of your time behind the wheel of passenger cars and light trucks. You'll safely execute test maneuvers that help advance Goodyear's future tire technologies.
We're looking for someone with a passion for driving, technical curiosity, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn alongside a global team of experienced test drivers.
Why This Role Matters
  • Generates critical feedback on tire performance by spending much of the time behind the wheel of passenger car and/or light truck platforms.

  • Safely executes subjective and objective test maneuvers to expand and lead Goodyear's future tire technology development.

What You'll Do
  • Coordinate and evaluate tire performance tests (such as wet and dry handling, tire noise and ride comfort) on passenger and light truck vehicles.

  • Effectively communicate tire performance (such as grip, vehicle balance, NVH - noise, vibration & harshness) to technical teams and requisite stakeholders.

  • Safely operate a variety of test vehicles in accordance with established procedures.

  • Work on engineering projects to improve safety, quality and testing efficiency.

  • Be a forward-facing member of our team that interacts with customers at product demonstrations and media events.

  • Provide quality data on time to meet product development deadlines.

  • Maintain the highest standards of safety through sound judgment and situational awareness while remaining open to coaching, instruction, and feedback to support continuous development.

What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
  • Two or more years of progressive experience in mechanical or automotive engineering, with a focus on vehicle dynamics and control systems.
  • Practical experience in signal processing, advanced instrumentation, and senior-level installation or technical implementation.
  • Performance or Professional driving experience is preferred.
