What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Temporary Oracle Data Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Temporary Oracle Data Engineer, you need a solid background in database design, SQL programming, and data integration, typically supported by a degree in computer science or related field. Experience with Oracle Database, ETL tools, and certifications such as Oracle Certified Professional are highly valuable. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication skills help you collaborate with teams and manage complex data challenges. These skills ensure efficient data management, system reliability, and the successful delivery of data solutions within limited project timeframes.

What are some typical challenges a Temporary Oracle Data Engineer might face during short-term assignments?

As a Temporary Oracle Data Engineer, you may encounter challenges such as quickly learning an organization's existing Oracle database architecture and understanding their data workflows within a limited timeframe. Adapting to unfamiliar data integration tools or legacy systems is common, as is collaborating with permanent staff who have established processes. Additionally, balancing fast project turnarounds with maintaining data quality and security standards is crucial. Proactive communication and flexibility are essential for success in these temporary roles.

What does a Temporary Oracle Data Engineer do?

A Temporary Oracle Data Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining data systems that use Oracle databases on a short-term or contract basis. They handle data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL), optimize database performance, and ensure data integrity. Their work often supports projects that require specialized Oracle database expertise for a limited period, such as migrations, upgrades, or analytics implementations. They collaborate with other IT professionals to deliver reliable, scalable data solutions tailored to organizational needs.

Job description

Description
We are hiring a Data Engineer to support and extend a growing NetSuite Analytics Warehouse (NSAW) initiative built on the Oracle analytics stack. This is a hands-on, individual-contributor role that spans the full analytics lifecycle: data engineering, SQL development, ETL/ELT pipelines, data modeling, and the reporting layer that sits on top.
The role blends traditional data engineering with analytics engineering. You will build and maintain pipelines, but you will also shape the semantic models and reporting infrastructure that business users rely on.
Requirements
Job Duties:
  • Develop and optimize complex SQL queries, views, materialized views, and stored procedures
  • Design, build, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines for data extraction, transformation, and loading
  • Contribute to data architecture and data modeling decisions for reporting and analytics use cases
  • Work across multiple database platforms to maintain data integrity, consistency, and performance
  • Build and maintain reporting infrastructure, dashboards, and semantic models on top of the warehouse
  • Lead technical work on data migration and system transition initiatives

Education:
A bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology from an accredited college or university in a related discipline. In the absence of a degree, directly related job experience serving in a Data Engineer role, where a number of years, proven knowledge, and certifications may offset the degree requirement.
Requirements:
  • 8+ years of hands-on SQL development experience, including writing, debugging, and tuning complex queries in enterprise environments
  • Strong experience with data architecture, data modeling, and ETL/ELT pipeline development
  • Working experience with at least two relational database platforms, such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server / Azure SQL, PostgreSQL, or comparable enterprise systems
  • Solid grounding in performance tuning, execution plan analysis, and data quality practices
  • Hands-on experience with at least one BI/visualization platform (Power BI, Tableau, OAC, or equivalent)
  • Experience supporting data migrations, ERP integrations, or enterprise system transitions

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Oracle SQL and PL/SQL experience
  • NetSuite Analytics Warehouse (NSAW) or Oracle Fusion Analytics Warehouse (FAW) experience
  • Familiarity with NetSuite as a source system, including its data structures and customization options
  • Experience with Oracle Analytics Cloud (OAC), OBIEE, or semantic modeling in similar tools
  • Python for automation, scripting, or pipeline work
  • Experience with cloud data platforms - particularly Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), Azure, or AWS
  • Deep business acumen within the manufacturing industry, with a proven ability to translate complex financial reporting, operations, and supply chain requirements into technical data solutions.
  • Experience working closely with cross-functional departments (Finance, Operations, and Supply Chain) to align data engineering efforts with core business objectives and operational KPIs.

What We're Looking For:
An engineer whose first strength is SQL, who is comfortable moving between database platforms, and who understands that good analytics depends on both solid pipelines and a clean semantic layer. We want someone who can take ambiguous business requirements and turn them into maintainable technical solutions - and who is comfortable being the technical owner of the analytics stack rather than waiting to be told what to build.
