Benefits of an Apprenticeship with Block Imaging

  • Block Imaging Field Service Engineer Apprenticeship offers applicants an opportunity to launch into a fulfilling/meaningful career serving hospitals so that healthcare providers can serve their patients.
  • Apprentices will spend approximately four months working/learning/training at Block Imaging’s headquarters in Holt, Michigan.
  • Out-of-state candidates will receive a housing allowance to help cover short-term accommodations until they return home. Local candidates who reside within a 75-mile radius of Holt, MI may also qualify for a housing allowance.
  • The primary focus of the program is to provide training in electronics, computer networking, x-ray theory, hands on x-ray equipment training, and supervised work in the field with experienced engineers. Other modalities will not be the focus of the program at this time


Job Description Statement:

The Field Service Engineer Apprentice assists with the installation, maintenance, and repair of equipment under the guidance of experienced Field Service Engineers. They receive hands-on technical training and mentorship to develop the skills needed for a career in field service engineering. The role includes participating in structured learning programs and field assignments to gain practical experience across various service environments.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Assist in servicing, maintaining, and repairing medical imaging equipment at customer locations.
  • Evaluate equipment performance and support preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, calibrations, installations, and repairs to meet OEM standards.
  • Diagnose and resolve electronic, mechanical, and network issues under the guidance of senior engineers while developing technical skills.
  • Document service work accurately and help train end users on proper equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Communicate effectively with management and team members, providing updates, reporting issues, and identifying improvement opportunities.
  • Represent the company professionally on-site, maintaining strong customer relationships.
  • Support continuous improvement by sharing field insights and pursuing ongoing learning in new technologies and repair methods.
  • Driving and vehicle operation are essential functions of this role.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

  • Strong mechanical skills with the ability to troubleshoot issues using critical thinking and initiative.
  • Able to prioritize tasks, manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail.
  • Clear and professional verbal, written, and listening skills for interacting with customers, vendors, and team members.
  • Works well with others, builds positive relationships, and maintains a respectful, customer-focused approach.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office, diagnostic software, computer hardware, and accurate data entry/database management.
  • Follows all safety procedures and regulatory requirements, including maintaining a valid driver’s license and meeting all driving-related compliance standards.

Experience and Education Requirements:


Preferred Experience

  • Equivalent military training or experience in a technical specialty may also be considered.
  • Minimum of one year of hands-on mechanical and/or electrical experience.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude through a combination of work experience and/or relevant training.

Education (or equivalent experience)

  • Associate degree in a technical discipline such as electronics, mechanical engineering, computer technology, or a related field.

Travel Requirements:

Frequent driving 30%+, load, transport, deliver parts/equipment. Meet driver eligibility requirements. Minimum age 21, refer to company vehicle policy.

This role may involve

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout various work environments for extended periods.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching to access and service equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds; heavier lifting may require assistance or mechanical aids.
  • Manual dexterity to handle tools, small components, and electronic parts.
  • Visual acuity and color perception sufficient to read schematics, calibrate equipment, and identify wiring or indicators.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with healthcare and related facility staff, as well as document service activities accurately and efficiently.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) in any situation where it is necessary.
  • Compliance with hospital health and safety requirements. Ability to safely operate and enter/exit vehicles, drive for extended periods and work in varied environmental conditions with potential exposure to machinery, noise, and hazardous materials.

The base pay range for this position is:

  • Hourly rate of pay will be $25 per hour during training; base pay range once in the field - $66,000 - $68,000
