As of Jul 29, 2026, the average hourly pay for temporary leasing agent in Ohio is $17.60, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $15.29 and $18.27 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Why is it so hard to get a leasing agent job?

Leasing agent jobs are competitive due to high demand and the need for specific skills such as customer service, sales, and knowledge of leasing software. Employers often prefer candidates with relevant experience, certifications, or real estate knowledge, which can make entry more challenging for newcomers.

How much do leasing agents make per rental?

Leasing agents typically earn a commission or fee for each rental they secure, which can range from a flat fee of $50 to $200 per lease or a percentage of the first month's rent, often around 25-50%. The exact amount depends on the property management company, location, and the agent's experience and performance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Temporary Leasing Agent position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Temporary Leasing Agent, you should have strong sales abilities, basic knowledge of real estate or property management, and a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with property management software like Yardi or AppFolio and the use of CRM systems is often required. Excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and adaptability help candidates stand out in this fast-paced, customer-focused environment. These skills are vital for successfully matching prospective tenants with suitable properties and ensuring a smooth leasing process for both clients and the management team.

What are some typical challenges Temporary Leasing Agents might face on the job?

Temporary Leasing Agents often work in fast-moving environments where adapting quickly to changes in availability, policies, or client needs is essential. Common challenges include managing a high volume of inquiries, coordinating showings on short notice, and meeting leasing targets during busy seasons. You'll also need to quickly build rapport with prospective tenants and maintain clear communication with property managers and maintenance teams. Being able to stay organized and handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously helps ensure a positive experience for both clients and employers.

What is a Temporary Leasing Agent job?

A Temporary Leasing Agent is responsible for assisting with leasing and rental activities for a property on a short-term basis. Their duties typically include showing units to prospective tenants, processing rental applications, and providing excellent customer service to residents. They may also help with administrative tasks like handling lease paperwork and coordinating move-ins. This role is ideal for those looking to gain experience in property management without a long-term commitment. Temporary Leasing Agents are often hired to cover staffing shortages, busy seasons, or special leasing projects.

Where do leasing agents make the most money?

Leasing agents tend to earn higher salaries in regions with a high cost of living and competitive real estate markets, such as major metropolitan areas. Income can also increase with experience, certifications, and the size or type of property portfolio managed. However, overall earnings are influenced more by local market conditions than by specific locations alone.

How can I work for a temp agency?

To work as a temporary leasing agent through a temp agency, you should register with staffing agencies that specialize in property management or real estate roles. You may need to complete an application, provide relevant experience or certifications, and pass a background check. Temp agencies match candidates with short-term leasing positions based on their skills and availability.
