Position Overview
We are currently seeking a Survey Drafter to join our team. This role is responsible for preparing accurate survey drawings, plats, exhibits, and mapping deliverables in support of land surveying and engineering projects. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically proficient, and capable of working closely with survey crews, project managers, and professional land surveyors to produce high-quality drafting and design documents.

Compensation: $25-35/hour (DOE)
Location: West Valley City, UT
FLSA Exemption: Exempt
Schedule: Monday-Friday, hours may vary based on project demands
What You'll Be Doing
  • Prepare survey plats, boundary surveys, ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, topographic maps, easement exhibits, legal description exhibits, and construction staking plans
  • Draft survey deliverables using AutoCAD Civil 3D and other applicable software platforms
  • Process and incorporate field survey data from GPS, total stations, UAV, laser scanning, and conventional surveying equipment
  • Review survey notes, calculations, record documents, and title commitments for drafting accuracy
  • Assist in the preparation of legal descriptions, exhibits, and right-of-way documents
  • Coordinate with Survey Project Managers, Professional Land Surveyors, Engineers, and Field Crews
  • Organize and maintain project files, survey records, and electronic data
  • Ensure all deliverables comply with company standards, client requirements, and applicable regulations
  • Assist with data management, quality control reviews, and project documentation
  • Meet project deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams regarding project status and drafting requirements

What You Have
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate degree in Drafting, Geomatics, Surveying Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred
  • 2+ years of survey drafting experience preferred
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Knowledge of boundary, topographic, and construction surveying principles
  • Ability to interpret field notes, legal descriptions, title documentation, and engineering plans
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Valid driver's license

What Will Make You Stand Out
  • Experience drafting ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys
  • Experience supporting transportation, commercial, municipal, or energy-related projects
  • Familiarity with GIS software and geospatial data management
  • Experience processing GPS, LiDAR, laser scanning, and photogrammetry data
  • Knowledge of state and local surveying regulations
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage drafting tasks from project kickoff through final deliverable
  • Experience mentoring junior drafters or technicians

Preferred Certifications and Technical Skills
  • Certified Survey Technician (CST) certification through NSPS
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D certification

  • Experience with Trimble Business Center, Carlson Survey, MicroStation, or similar survey processing software
  • Familiarity with drone/UAV mapping workflows and point cloud processing
  • Understanding of ALTA/NSPS Land Title Survey standards
