Job Description: Legacy Behavioral Health Services is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our Behavioral Health team. This position primarily serves our Crisis Service Center and Temporary Observation (Temp Ops) Unit, while also providing flexible coverage for our outpatient behavioral health clinics as needed. The Nurse Practitioner will provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, psychotherapy, and ongoing treatment services for individuals experiencing mental health disorders, substance use disorders, and developmental disabilities. Services are provided in collaboration with and under the supervision of a psychiatrist as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team.

This position requires:
  • Current licensure in the state of GA
  • Appropriate DEA licensure to include scheduled drugs preferred.
  • Ability to formulate diagnosis based on examination, assessment and test results.
  • Ability to interpret test results, identify deviations from norms, and intervene or make appropriate referrals.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team of health care professionals.
  • Ability to assess, plan for, and provide basic nursing skills.
  • Ability to prescribe medications as part of a treatment plan gaining physician approval when needed.
  • Knowledge of assessment tools, interviewing, and examination techniques.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA.
  • Knowledge regarding agreed upon practices and protocols.
  • Knowledge of procedures including developing, implementing and revising plan of care. Documentation skills meeting legal and professional standards; maintaining records appropriately.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
  • Standing/Walking: Approximately 25–40% of the workday, depending on inpatient or outpatient duties
  • Sitting: Approximately 60–75% of the workday for documentation, electronic health records, and telehealth services
  • Must be able to perform Mindset techniques and other approved crisis intervention methods, including physical holds when necessary
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 20–30 pounds
  • Must be able to move quickly in emergency or crisis situations
  • Work performed in behavioral health environments, including inpatient units, outpatient clinics, residential programs, and telehealth settings
  • Potential exposure to individuals experiencing emotional, psychiatric, or behavioral distress
  • Potential exposure to infectious diseases; appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided
  • Requires ability to work in a fast-paced, unpredictable environment with frequent interruptions
  • May be required to travel between organizational sites or community locations
  • May be required to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, depending on location needs
