Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW (non-exempt):
The IT Supervisor supports and oversees daily IT operations for Jefferson County Health Center (JCHC), ensuring reliable, secure, and compliant technology services that support clinical care, business operations, and patient safety. This role supervises IT staff, coordinates support for clinical and administrative systems, and ensures adherence to healthcare regulations, including HIPAA.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3-6 years of progressively responsible IT experience
  • Strong working knowledge of:
    • Windows environments and endpoint management
    • Networking administration
    • Project management experience
    • Healthcare, HIPAA, IT security and privacy principles
  • Excellent troubleshooting, communication and customer-service skills
  • Stays current on new and emerging technologies

ACCOUNTABILITY:
Reports to Chief Information Officer
DIRECT REPORTS:
Systems Support Specialists
POSITION-SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:
  • Experience supporting healthcare IT environments, including clinical and administrative systems.
  • Experience supporting Epic EHR-related technology in a healthcare environment
  • Supervisory or team lead experience in an IT setting
  • Strong knowledge of endpoint management, and networking fundamentals
  • Experience managing technology vendors and expectations
  • Understanding of HIPAA, data privacy, and healthcare security requirements
  • Experience supporting 24x7 clinical operations and on-call escalation models
  • Ability to troubleshoot and coordinate resolution of complex technical issues
  • Strong communication skills for working with clinical, operational, and leadership teams
  • Ability to mentor and train IT support staff
  • Experience documenting procedures, workflows, and system configurations
  • Support strategic/organizational priorities as well as department goals
  • Prepare and deliver staff performance feedback for the CIO's review process
  • Ability to prioritize work in a fast paced, patient care-focused environment

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Staff Supervision and Development
  • Supervise IT staff and/or contractors, including scheduling, training, performance feedback, and workload management.
  • Mentor team members in customer service, technical skills, and healthcare IT best practices.
  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, and ongoing competency development.

Operational Leadership
  • Supervise daily IT operations, including clinical systems, network infrastructure, servers, endpoints, and telecommunications.
  • Provide escalation support for critical system issues impacting patient care, including after-hours and on-call coverage.
  • Prioritize and coordinate IT work to ensure minimal disruption to clinical workflows.

Clinical Systems Support
  • Support and maintain Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, clinical applications, medical device connectivity, and interfaces.
  • Collaborate with nursing, providers, and ancillary departments to troubleshoot and resolve workflow or system issues.
  • Assist with testing, upgrades, downtime procedures, and disaster recovery drills related to clinical systems.

Security, Compliance, and Risk Management
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, HITECH, and other applicable healthcare privacy and security regulations.
  • Monitor, enforce, and document cybersecurity policies, access controls, patching, backups, and audit logs.
  • Respond to security incidents and coordinate with leadership, vendors, and external partners as required.

Vendor and Project Management
  • Coordinate with third-party vendors, managed service providers, and equipment suppliers.
  • Assist in planning and managing IT projects such as system upgrades, infrastructure refreshes, and new technology implementations.
  • Track IT inventory, licenses, warranties, and service agreements.

Strategy and Collaboration
  • Partner with JCHC leadership to align IT services with clinical, operational, and financial goals.
  • Provide recommendations for cost-effective technology solutions suitable for a rural healthcare environment.
  • Participate in committees related to clinical informatics, quality, compliance, or emergency preparedness as requested.

  • Moderate to loud noise environment when machines/equipment in use
  • Involvement in checking in/moving of supplies may result in unavoidable work-related injury
  • Must be constantly alert for patient/family emergency situations
