Job description

) Worcester Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, a 146-bed skilled nursing facility, is seeking an experienced Infection Control Nurse/Wound Nurse to join our dynamic care team. As an ICN, you will plan, organize, develop, coordinate, direct and evaluate our Infection Control Program to ensure the highest level of infection prevention and control. This is a full-time position with an on-call rotation, offering a competitive hourly rate ranging from $38 to $50, depending on license and experience. Can be an LPN or RN.
Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and execute the comprehensive Infection Control and Prevention Program
  • Communicate and inform the Infection Control and Prevention Committee of any infection-related issues
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation related to the Infection Control and Prevention Program and Skin Integrity Program
  • Evaluate the status of infection-related practices in the facility through monthly surveillance rounds
  • Participate in employee health and safety committees
  • Review and analyze laboratory reports, assure up-to-date policy/procedure manuals, and review the annual antibiogram
  • Handle employee exposure follow-up procedures, review employee illness logs, and institute appropriate infection control measures
  • Coordinate employee annual TB symptom surveys, flu program, and ensure completion of required vaccinations

Requirements:
  • Must possess a Nursing Degree from an accredited school of nursing, college, or university
  • Must possess a current, unencumbered license to practice nursing in Massachusetts
  • Must have as a minimum, two (2) years clinical experience in a long-term care facility
  • Must have training in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices
  • Must possess a working knowledge of epidemiology, microbiology, infectious diseases, and aseptic techniques
  • Certification in infection control and/or wound care preferred, but not necessary
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions, deal tactfully with personnel and residents, and possess leadership and supervisory ability

Additional Requirements:
  • Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long-term care and infection control
  • Must possess patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm
  • Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and incorporate them into existing nursing practices
