Instructor for Government/Military program - Concordia Language Villages

General Employment Period:
Two or three weeks at a time, depending on program. Course dates can be viewed at: https://www.concordialanguagevillages.org/language-training-center
General Work Schedule (days of week):
Sunday through Saturday
General shift hours:
As needed, but generally 9 hours/day between 7:30 AM and 9 PM. This position also requires 15-20 hours of preparation before each course, compensation for which is included in the gross amount noted in the employment offer.
Job Summary:
About the Position:
The Instructor in a Concordia Language Villages Government/Military program is responsible for instruction and overall implementation of a language-specific iso-immersion program as guided by the Lead Instructor/Program Coordinator.
This includes planning and implementation of a variety of program elements, and may also include public relations, and interaction with the support staff from the operations areas at the Language Villages.
The Instructor is responsible for implementing program elements that reflect the mission and immersion principles/methodology of Concordia Language Villages, that align with the parameters of the Concordia military pedagogical model, and that are in accordance with the expressed needs of the client.
The Instructor reports to the respective Lead Instructor and to the administrative team of Concordia Language Villages as a whole.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Superior (at minimum) proficiency in the target language/dialects and Advanced(minimum) proficiency English
  2. Commitment to the importance of immersion language and culture education
  3. Knowledge of effective teaching strategies and methodologies for second language learning in an immersion setting for adults
  4. Strong organizational skills
  5. Excellent oral and written communication skills
  6. B.A. degree required, with advanced degree preferred
  7. Ability to perform the essential functions of the instructor position (see job description)
  8. Availability for all session dates noted in the application
  9. Eligibility to be employed legally in the USA; candidate assumes responsibility and costs for any visa requirements
  10. Sympathy with the mission of a liberal arts college affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Understanding of and experience with language proficiency rating scales (ILR and ACTFL) and the LTI's Oral Proficiency Test (OPI)
  2. Experience with content-based language instruction for adults
  3. Experience teaching in a Concordia Language Villages program or in a comparable language immersion environment
  4. Experience with Learning Management Systems such as Moodle, Canvas, Blackboard and Google Classroom
  5. Advanced degree in a related field
