What are temporary hospitality jobs?

Temporary hospitality jobs are short-term positions in the hospitality industry, such as hotels, restaurants, event venues, and catering companies. These roles can include positions like servers, bartenders, front desk staff, housekeeping, or event coordinators, and typically last for a defined period, such as during busy seasons or special events. Temporary workers help businesses manage fluctuating demand and provide flexibility for both employers and employees. Many people use temporary hospitality jobs to gain experience, earn extra income, or explore different roles within the industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a temporary hospitality worker?

To thrive as a Temporary Hospitality Worker, you need strong customer service skills, adaptability, and basic knowledge of food safety or housekeeping standards, often gained through prior experience or short-term training. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, reservation software, or cleaning equipment is commonly required depending on the specific assignment. Excellent communication, teamwork, and a professional demeanor help individuals stand out in client-facing roles. These skills ensure smooth operations, positive guest experiences, and flexibility to meet varying employer needs in dynamic hospitality environments.

What are some common challenges faced in temporary hospitality roles, and how can I overcome them?

Temporary hospitality positions often require adapting quickly to new environments, teams, and workflows. You may face challenges such as learning venue-specific procedures on short notice, managing fluctuating schedules, and building rapport with coworkers in a fast-paced setting. To overcome these obstacles, focus on strong communication, ask clarifying questions early, and remain flexible. Demonstrating reliability and a positive attitude can also help you stand out and make a lasting impression, potentially leading to more assignments or permanent opportunities.

Omni Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Montelucia
Temporary, On-Call | On-Property
Omni Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Montelucia is seeking a creative and hospitality-minded Temporary Social Media Coordinator to support our marketing team on an on-call basis during a temporary assignment.
This is an ideal opportunity for a photographer, content creator or social media professional who enjoys working in a resort environment and can capture the energy, details and experiences that make a property come to life through social media.
The position will work primarily on-property at Omni Scottsdale, capturing photography and video, supporting social media content development, and helping bring the resort's programming, food and beverage, spa and guest experiences to life across digital channels.
Responsibilities
  • Capture high-quality photography and video content throughout the resort, including guestrooms, restaurants, spa, pools, public spaces and seasonal activations.
  • Create engaging iPhone photography, short-form video and social-first content for Instagram and Facebook.
  • Capture real-time content around resort programming, food and beverage experiences, events and seasonal moments.
  • Support the development and execution of the property's social media content calendar.
  • Assist with approximately three in-feed posts and five Stories per week when scheduled and as business needs require.
  • Develop short-form video content suitable for Reels and Stories.
  • Edit and lightly retouch photography and video for social media use.
  • Organize and deliver approved content assets for use by the marketing team.
  • Provide light community management, including monitoring comments, direct messages and engagement.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to identify timely content opportunities and prioritize seasonal marketing needs.
  • Follow Omni Hotels & Resorts brand standards and property guidelines for photography, social media and content creation.
  • Maintain guest privacy and confidentiality while capturing content on-property.
  • Support additional content and social media projects as assigned.

What We're Looking For
  • Experience creating social media content for a hospitality, lifestyle, restaurant, travel or luxury-adjacent brand preferred.
  • Strong photography and short-form video skills, particularly for social media.
  • A strong visual eye and understanding of composition, lighting and storytelling.
  • Familiarity with Instagram and Facebook content formats and best practices.
  • Ability to identify compelling, spontaneous content opportunities in a resort environment.
  • Comfortable working independently on-property while collaborating closely with a marketing team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work around hotel operations, events and changing schedules.
  • Professional communication skills and a guest-focused approach.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, CapCut or similar editing tools is a plus.
