Job description

Principal Objectives/Purpose

The ACYR team, strives to build pathways to success through education, skill building and employment opportunities to help youth and young adults reach self-sufficiency. The team plays a crucial role in promoting a culture of positivity, growth mindset, and hospitality by offering high-energy educational activities and services that create a welcoming environment. Every member of the team is charged to build relationships and trust with youth and young adults to maintain relationships that foster them continuing in their planned services. Our team also serves as an integral component with connecting to our community and spreading/demonstrating the mission of ACYR.

A Volunteer/Intern enjoys assisting young people and students that are underserved and underprivileged. Experience can come from a host of backgrounds, none more important than the other. However, being comfortable with youth is a strength not to be overlooked.


Position Overview

Specific duties will be decided collaboratively, based upon volunteer/intern strengths, areas of interest, and learning objectives, in addition to program need. Some responsibilities may include:

  • Engagement activities to support Engagement efforts, such as attending community events and assisting in enrollment classes for participants.
  • Monitor and engage on ACYR social media platforms.
  • Helping at the front desk answering calls and greeting students.
  • Interacting with potential students, answering students and guiding them to appropriate services.
  • Tutoring students.
  • Assist instructors/teachers and office staff with clerical duties, including attendance, filing, and distributing materials.
  • Support extracurricular activities, assemblies, and events.

Required Qualifications

None unless identified as a part of the role the volunteer will fill and will be communicated at that time.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with opportunity young adults.
  • Basic computer skills for administrative tasks.
  • Bi-lingual/Bi-cultural

Background Check

Must have a reputation for honesty and trustworthiness. Misdemeanor and/or felony convictions may be disqualifying depending on type, number, severity, and how recent. The background check will consist of a reference checks, employment, education, and criminal background search.

ACYR is an at-will employer and any offer of employment with ACYR is contingent upon a successful completion of said background check.

Certification/Licenses/Other Requirements

Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.

Work Environment

This position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

Physical Demands

Requires energetic interactions between the ACYR team members and students. Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word to impart oral information to clients or the public and to convey detailed spoken instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly. Ability to interact with students during activities also required.

Travel Requirements

Volunteer position may require use of insured personal vehicle for agency business to travel to and from satellite sites, events, training, etc. within Metropolitan Phoenix. If driving for ACYR proof of personal vehicle insurance is required.
