Temporary Healthcare refers to short-term staffing solutions in various healthcare settings, often filled by agency workers or temp staff. Registered Nurses are licensed healthcare professionals providing ongoing patient care. While temporary healthcare workers may not always require licenses, RNs must have valid credentials. Temporary healthcare roles are ideal for short-term staffing needs, whereas RNs typically work in permanent or long-term positions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a Temporary Healthcare position, and why are they important?

To thrive in a Temporary Healthcare role, you typically need a relevant healthcare credential (such as CNA, LPN, RN, or allied health certification), strong clinical skills, and the ability to quickly adapt to new environments. Familiarity with various electronic health record (EHR) systems, hospital protocols, and, in some cases, current BLS/CPR certification is often expected. Flexibility, strong communication, and resilience are vital soft skills for adjusting to different teams and patient populations. These skills enable temporary healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality care with minimal onboarding while ensuring patient safety and smooth team integration.

What are some common challenges faced in temporary healthcare positions, and how can I prepare for them?

Temporary healthcare roles often involve quickly adapting to new environments, learning different protocols, and building rapport with unfamiliar teams. You may be assigned varying shifts, settings, or patient populations, which requires flexibility and strong communication skills. To succeed, focus on staying organized, proactively asking questions, and leveraging your adaptability to integrate smoothly into each assignment. Building a network of contacts within staffing agencies can also help you find roles that best match your skills and preferences.

Job description

About the Company:

Octave is a modern behavioral health practice creating a new standard for care delivery that's both high-quality and accessible. With in-person and virtual clinics in multiple states, the company offers evidence-based individual, couples, and family therapy, while pioneering relationships with payers to make care more affordable through insurance. By raising the bar on how care is delivered and how providers are supported, we are building a sustainable system that values equity, affordability, and effectiveness.

Job Summary:

This is a temporary/part-time inside sales role with the opportunity to convert to a full-time W2 position. The Healthcare Outreach Representative promotes Octave Therapy's behavioral health services to primary care physicians and psychiatry practices. This inside sales role drives patient referrals, builds provider relationships, and expands Octave's reach in markets not covered by field-based Outreach Managers.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Sales Execution
    • Make outbound calls to providers in whitespace markets not covered by field-based Outreach Managers
    • Manage inbound requests from healthcare providers interested in Octave's services
    • Conduct virtual presentations that educate physicians and staff on Octave's care model, outcomes data, and patient benefits
    • Overcome objections and close providers on establishing Octave as their preferred behavioral health referral partner
    • Meet assigned referral targets and complete required virtual sales activities to drive leads and conversions
  • Account Development
    • Build a deep understanding of Octave's services to clearly communicate our value proposition: outcomes data, measurement-based care, in-network access, and patient experience
    • Collaborate with providers to understand their patient needs and align Octave's services accordingly
    • Gather provider feedback and share insights with internal teams to improve services and messaging
  • Pipeline Management
    • Maintain an organized pipeline and track all outreach in CRM, updating activity within 48 hours
    • Partner with the marketing team to create repeatable, scalable processes for referrals
    • Leverage AI tools as a core part of daily work (drafting, research, iteration) to improve efficiency, quality, and decision-making

Required Skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with confidence presenting virtually
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and comfortable in a fast-paced environment
  • Passion for behavioral health and expanding access to quality care
  • Comfort using AI tools in day-to-day workflows, with a willingness to continuously rethink and improve how work gets done
  • Curiosity and openness to experimenting with new tools and approaches; prior experience with AI tools is a plus
  • Deep understanding of the behavioral health landscape preferred
  • Availability to work core business hours of 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM PST on at least three weekdays (Monday through Friday), with flexibility in scheduling

Education & Experience

  • 2-4 years in behavioral health outreach, business development, or healthcare-related sales or support role
  • Experience engaging healthcare providers or medical office staff
  • Proven ability to manage a pipeline, meet activity targets, and work in a CRM (HubSpot or Salesforce)

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to frequently communicate with others through virtual meeting applications such as Zoom and Google Meet.
  • Must be able to observe and communicate information on company provided laptop.
  • Move up to 10 pounds on occasion.
