What is a temporary handyman?

Temporary handymen are skilled workers hired on a short-term or project-by-project basis to perform maintenance, repairs, and general upkeep tasks in homes, offices, or other facilities. Their work can include fixing leaky faucets, painting, assembling furniture, or handling minor electrical and plumbing issues. They are often employed through agencies or directly by clients needing flexible, short-term help rather than full-time maintenance staff.

Search IntentTemporary handyman vs maintenance technician

While both roles involve repair and maintenance tasks, a Temporary Handyman typically handles short-term, small-scale repairs in residential or small commercial settings. Maintenance Technicians often work in larger facilities, performing routine, scheduled maintenance requiring specialized skills or certifications. The choice depends on the scope and duration of the work needed.

What types of projects and tasks can a temporary handyman expect to handle on a typical assignment?

As a Temporary Handyman, you can expect to tackle a variety of maintenance and repair tasks, including minor plumbing, electrical fixes, painting, furniture assembly, and general facility upkeep. Assignments often depend on the specific needs of the employer, so flexibility and the ability to quickly adapt to new environments are important. You may work independently or as part of a facilities team, frequently collaborating with property managers or supervisors to prioritize and complete work orders efficiently. This role provides valuable hands-on experience across different trades and settings, which can be an excellent stepping stone for more specialized or permanent maintenance positions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a temporary handyman, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Temporary Handyman, you need a solid understanding of basic repair, maintenance, and construction tasks, often supported by experience or vocational training. Familiarity with hand and power tools, basic safety protocols, and sometimes certifications such as OSHA-10 are typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, reliability, and good communication help a handyman excel when adapting to varied tasks and client needs. These skills ensure efficient, high-quality repairs and maintenance, leading to satisfied clients and a safe work environment.

About the Role
We are a professional, premium home-repair company serving homeowners who value quality, reliability, and trust. Our work is pre-sold, clearly scoped, and managed - not rushed, not negotiated in the field.
We are hiring a W-2 Technician to join our core production team. This role is ideal for someone who wants steady work, strong pay, and a professional environment - without sales pressure or 1099 uncertainty.
No Selling - Ever
All jobs are pre-sold before they reach the field
  • No estimates to write
  • No upselling or closing
  • No "while I'm here" pressure
  • Scope changes are handled by the office and foreman

Your job is to execute quality work, not sell.
What You'll Be Doing
  • Performing Standard Work (defined, single-scope repairs and installs)
  • Executing Managed Work (multi-day or multi-trade projects with planning support)
  • Working from clear scopes and schedules
  • Communicating with the foreman to keep jobs on track
  • Representing a trusted brand in customers' homes

What This Job Is (and Is Not)
This IS:
  • Consistent, scheduled work
  • Clear expectations and scope
  • A W-2 position with stability
  • A craftsmanship-focused role

This is NOT:
  • A sales or commission role
  • A 1099 gig
  • Piece-rate or rush-and-run work
  • A company that overloads techs to chase volume

Pay, Hours & Vehicle Compensation
  • $28-$30 per hour (W-2) depending on experience
  • 32-35 hour guaranteed weekly floor (conditional on availability & performance)
  • Paid for:
    • On-site work
    • Job-to-job travel during the workday
    • Required meetings and training
  • Mileage reimbursement at the IRS rate for:
    • Job-to-job travel
    • Job-related supply runs
(Commute to first job and home from last job are not reimbursed)
  • Opportunity for performance bonuses tied to productivity and quality (not sales)
  • Consistent weekday schedule (Monday-Friday)

What We're Looking For
  • 5+ years of residential repair or remodeling experience
  • Strong skills in:
    • Carpentry
    • Drywall
    • Light plumbing
    • Light electrical
    • General repairs
  • Ability to work independently within a defined process
  • Professional communication and clean jobsite habits
  • Pride in workmanship and customer experience
  • Valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle
  • Own basic hand tools (specialty tools provided as needed)

What You'll Appreciate Here
  • No selling pressure
  • Jobs that are properly priced and managed
  • No expectation to donate labor or "make it work for free"
  • A foreman who supports you instead of micromanaging
  • An office team that schedules intelligently
  • A company building a calm, long-term operation

Who This Role Is Not For
This role is not a fit if you:
  • Prefer commission-based or sales-driven work
  • Rely on side jobs during the week
  • Dislike schedules or accountability
  • Are looking for temporary or seasonal work

Compensation: $28.00 - $30.00 per hour
