At SJE, we are more than a company — we are a family of brands with a shared vision and mission to provide industry-leading, innovative, and reliable control and monitoring solutions that improve efficiencies, protect the environment, and deliver dependable solutions to our valued customers. We are looking for an Electrical/Control System Engineer II to support our SJE Revere brand. This role will work on‑site from our Birmingham, Alabama office location.

Our Revere brand is a leading provider of automation and control solutions for the industrial, water and wastewater treatment, power and energy, manufacturing, food and beverage, oil and gas, and pulp and paper industries. We design, build, and implement customized automation and control systems for highly complex projects.

The job

Are you a hands‑on problem solver who thrives in fast‑paced environments? We are seeking a skilled Electrical/Control Systems Engineer II to join our Engineering Team. In this role, you’ll bring automated systems to life—from design to programming to on‑site commissioning and troubleshooting. You’ll work directly with our clients and internal teams to ensure projects are delivered smoothly, safely, and successfully.

Primary Duties
  • Design electrical control panels and systems to meet project specifications and utilize knowledge of industry standards (UL508A, NEC, IEEE) to design and specify hardware and software for industrial control systems.
  • Configure PLCs, OITs, and SCADA Systems for industrial process and water/wastewater systems.
  • Lead intermediate‑level projects independently, mentoring and guiding other team members.
  • Lead field commissioning efforts, including I/O checkout, functional testing, and system startup of PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, VFDs, and instrumentation.
  • Troubleshoot real‑time issues across automation hardware, software, and communication networks.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and end users to ensure smooth implementation and customer satisfaction.
  • Provide field service and technical support post‑installation as needed.
  • Redline drawings, document commissioning activities, and support project closeout efforts.
  • Travel to job sites 30–60%, regionally and nationally.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Education, Experience and Ability Requirements
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Instrumentation, or related field — or equivalent hands‑on experience.
  • Minimum 5‑7 years of experience in automation design, programming, startup, service, or commissioning roles.
  • Proficiency in PLC/HMI/SCADA systems such as Rockwell (Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View), Siemens, Schneider, GE, VTScada, Ignition, etc.
  • Strong understanding of industrial networks: Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus TCP, serial protocols, and wireless communications.
  • Ability to interpret P&IDs, single‑line diagrams, and electrical schematics.
  • Field‑ready attitude, with excellent problem‑solving skills and a commitment to safety.
  • Comfortable working in industrial, municipal, or water/wastewater environments.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and customer service mindset.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel frequently.
Additional Qualifications (Nice to Have – Not Required)
  • Experience with GE iFIX, Schneider Unity/Control Expert, or Siemens TIA Portal.
  • VFD startup certifications (ABB, Siemens, Allen‑Brady, Schneider, etc.).
  • Experience with instrument calibration and loop checks.
  • OSHA 30 or other industrial safety training.
Benefits
  • What is your Paid Time Off and holiday policy? Up to 120 hours of Paid Time Off in your first year plus 8 paid holidays.
  • What benefits do you offer? We offer a robust benefits package including health, life, short‑term and long‑term disability insurance as well as dental and vision programs you need to take care of your family, along with other benefit options.
  • What is my commute? Plug this address into Google Maps: 5201 Princeton Way, Hoover, AL 35226.
