Job description

Floor Material Handler

The Floor Material Handler is responsible for the orderly movement of material in and out of the various manufacturing departments. A Floor Material Handler will supply equipment and operators with materials to insure the smooth and uninterrupted flow of the production processes.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure machine operators are supplied with necessary materials in a timely manner.
  • Operates manual pallet trucks and other non-powered material handling equipment to transport parts, stock, and supplies to work areas and between departments.
  • Orders materials from stock for use on the production floor.
  • Operates hoist and carton sealers.
  • Lift boxes, totes and parts from pallets and baskets and place them on conveyors or tables.
  • Removes empty pallets, boxes, etc. from the area.
  • Cleans tote pans and does sweeping and/or mopping in order to ensure a safe and clean work environment.
  • At the end of each shift, must ensure machines are fully stocked with material and the areas are ready for the next shift to begin work.
  • Ensure all trash is disposed of properly during and/or at the end of the shift.
  • May perform machine operator duties as required.
  • Is responsible for following all plant safety rules.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to read work order and determine the parts needed to ensure uninterrupted production on the assembly lines.
  • Ability to read and speak English in a proficient manner, as well as have basic math and computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.
  • Forklift certification or experience operating material handling equipment.
  • Experience with inventory control, ERP systems, or RF scanners.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles.

Physical/Mental Demands:

Physical: This position requires prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout the workday in a manufacturing environment. The employee must be able to frequently bend, reach, twist, stoop, and perform repetitive lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of materials weighing up to 75 pounds. Good vision and hearing, with or without corrective devices, are required to safely perform job duties. The employee must be able to safely navigate production and warehouse areas and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

Mental: This position requires attention to detail, organizational, and problem-solving skills to accurately handle, move, and track materials while supporting production schedules. The employee must be able to follow work instructions, prioritize tasks, communicate effectively with team members, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Working Environment:

This position is performed primarily in a manufacturing and warehouse environment. The employee is regularly exposed to moving equipment, forklifts, machinery, and moderate industrial noise. The role requires frequent interaction with production, shipping, receiving, and warehouse personnel and adherence to all company safety policies and PPE requirements.
