Position Summary Information
General Description of Position
Under the general direction and supervision of the Assistant Director and Lead Adult Education Assessment Specialist, the Adult Education Assessment Team Member is responsible for proctoring ESL and Adult Basic Education CASAS assessments on an as-needed and/or regularly scheduled basis.
Assessment Team Members help both native- and non-native-users of English complete program intake paperwork, and Career Pathways paperwork, perform orientations, and troubleshoot and manage student assessment events such as orientations and post-testing.
This is a part-time temporary position working up to 29 hours per week. This position is grant-funded and is considered for renewal annually in June.
Essential Functions
  1. Manage testing sessions according to CASAS assessment service and SCC Adult Education program guidelines.
  2. Support native- and non-native English users in completing required paperwork and interview questions.
  3. Help students register for classes based on assessment results.
  4. Maintain accurate and detailed records according to program assessment and orientation guidelines.
  5. Perform various tasks to support student assessment, orientation, and course registration.
  6. Promote/Support Diversity, Inclusion, Equity, and Access: Work toward creating a welcoming, inclusive, equitable, and productive work and learning environment, where all students, faculty members, and college employees are valued and may contribute to their full potential, regardless of their differences. Make concerted efforts to implement accessible and inclusive practices and processes aimed at creating a diverse and equitable learning and work environment. Commit to fostering and maintaining a safe environment of respect and inclusion for students, employees, and members of the community, and promote and support the College's policies and programming related to access, fair employment, EEO, equity, inclusion, and diversity.
Marginal Functions
  1. Phoning students, filling, copying, sorting, assisting students, and checking paperwork for accuracy and completion.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Experience supporting non-native users of English
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Use of computers including email, shared digital information, learning new software, and audio-visual communication software
  • Fulfill scheduled commitments reliably
  • Must reside in Nebraska.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Associate's degree in any field.
  2. Experience with assessment

  • Ability to speak languages in addition to English
  • Experience working with non-native users of English
