Description
The University of Washington Bothell School of Educational Studies (SES) invites applications for Lecturer Part Time Temporary positions for any prospective openings in all quarters of instructional years. Faculty appointments are on a 3, 6, or 9 month appointment, are temporary, and are non-tenure track positions. All appointments are contingent upon available funding and School faculty and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs approval.
Part time faculty may teach in the undergraduate and graduate degree curricula and across any of our School programs: Bachelor of Arts in Developmental & Youth Studies, Bachelor of Arts in Educational Studies (with or without the Elementary Teacher Certification option), K-8 Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Certificate programs and/or Master of Education (M.Ed.).
In addition to a strong focus in teacher preparation, other areas of specialization covered in our programs include: Human Growth and Development Processes, Early Literacy, Elementary Mathematics, English to Speakers of Other Languages, Multicultural Education, and Special Education. Our Developmental & Youth Studies curriculum explores early childhood into adolescence and emerging adulthood; focusing on the diversity and richness of development in family, peer, school, and community contexts. Our Educational Studies curriculum spans several disciplines, both in the study of education and teacher education. Disciplines are varied and include, but are not limited to: multicultural education, education and equity, special education, English language acquisition, history and philosophy of education, curriculum theory, design and assessment, educational research and teaching methodology and pedagogy.
Appointment service dates align with the annual academic calendar. Summer: June 16-August 15; Autumn: September 16-December 15; Winter: December 16-March 15; and Spring: March 16-June 15.
The appointments are renewable on a quarterly or annual basis, depending upon instructional needs, part time/short term faculty reappointment guidelines, and School approval. The base salary (Full time monthly rate) range for this position will be $6000 - $7000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. The full-time effort percentage is based on the credits taught. Part-time instructors may be appointed at 50% or greater on a quarterly basis but they cannot have a 50% or greater appointment on an annual basis.

(a) the purposes of education in a social and political democracy,
(b) the responsibility of universities to collaborate with community partners, and
(c) the critical role of professional educators in supporting equity in learning.

Qualifications
  • MA, K-12 teaching experience (for teacher preparation programs) or equivalent professional experience are required at time of appointment
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary and portfolio-based curricula
  • A demonstrated commitment to innovative and effective pedagogy, and should be prepared to teach lower and/or upper-division core courses that introduce students to interdisciplinary inquiry in a portfolio-based curriculum
  • A record of teaching excellence, evidence of engagement with current scholarship, demonstrated commitment to working with diverse student and community populations
  • All University of Washington faculty members engage in teaching and service.
