Job description

Job Title: Senior Project Manager - Power Generation & Major Capital Projects

Location: Valparaiso, IN (Hybrid/Field-Based with Travel to Project Sites) 

Duration: Temp-to-Hire 

Contract Term: July 6, 2026 - April 30, 2027 

Rate: $70 - $90/hr

Travel: Approximately 10-40% depending on project phase 

Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the United States now and in the future without the need for employment-based visa sponsorship. Sponsorship is not available for this position, including H-1B, F-1/OPT, CPT, TN, or other employment-based visa sponsorship.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead the development and execution of large-scale power generation and major capital infrastructure projects. This position will oversee the construction, procurement, commissioning, and commercial operation of natural gas-fired generation facilities, including simple-cycle combustion turbines and combined-cycle power plants.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on project leader with extensive experience managing EPC contractors, OEMs, construction teams, and cross-functional stakeholders while delivering technically complex projects safely, on schedule, and within budget.

This role offers the opportunity to manage highly visible capital projects ranging from hundreds of millions to over one billion dollars in project value.

Required QualificationsEducation
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related technical discipline
Experience
  • 10+ years of experience managing large-scale power generation, utility, industrial, energy, or infrastructure projects
  • 7+ years of experience managing major EPC projects valued at $100M+
  • 5+ years of experience managing construction-related projects
  • 3+ years of experience working with pipeline construction contractors
  • 3+ years of experience managing project budgets and cost controls
  • Demonstrated experience delivering projects safely, on schedule, and within budget
  • Experience with combined-cycle power generation projects, gas turbine facilities, or heavy industrial construction environments
  • Experience managing multiple contractors, vendors, consultants, and stakeholders simultaneously
Technical Knowledge
  • Knowledge of gas system design and operations, including gas flow, construction practices, contracts, and emergency response procedures
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal operating and construction codes
  • Proficiency with construction scheduling software, project controls systems, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and related project management tools
  • Valid Driver's License
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree or MBA
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) Certification
  • OSHA 30 Certification or equivalent safety certification
  • Experience managing utility-scale combustion turbine and combined-cycle generation projects
  • Familiarity with GE, Siemens, Mitsubishi, or other major OEM platforms
  • Experience with WMS and other utility operations support systems
Key ResponsibilitiesProject Leadership & Execution
  • Lead all phases of major generation project execution from development through commercial operation
  • Establish and manage project scope, budget, schedule, risk, and performance objectives
  • Coordinate EPC contractors, OEMs, engineering firms, consultants, and internal project teams
  • Drive project decision-making and issue resolution across multidisciplinary stakeholders
  • Ensure project objectives align with operational, commercial, environmental, and regulatory requirements
Engineering & Technical Coordination
  • Collaborate with project engineering teams and Owner's Engineers on:
    • Gas turbine and steam turbine integration
    • HRSG design and performance
    • Balance of Plant (BOP) systems
    • Grid interconnection requirements
    • Environmental permitting requirements
    • Building codes and regulatory standards
  • Support engineering reviews and technical evaluations throughout project execution
Construction Management
  • Oversee construction activities including:
    • Civil works and foundations
    • Turbine installation and alignment
    • HRSG erection
    • Electrical systems installation
    • Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) installation
  • Monitor contractor safety, productivity, quality, and schedule performance
  • Lead construction progress reviews and milestone tracking
  • Coordinate outage planning and tie-in activities when applicable
Schedule & Cost Management
  • Develop and maintain project schedules and baselines
  • Monitor critical path activities and implement recovery plans when necessary
  • Coordinate with project controls teams on:
    • Schedule performance
    • Change management
    • Forecasting
    • Cost management
    • Contingency planning
    • Risk analysis
  • Ensure accurate project reporting and forecasting throughout the project lifecycle
Contract & Commercial Management
  • Administer EPC, OEM, engineering, and service contracts
  • Manage contract negotiations, claims, disputes, and change orders
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and performance guarantees
  • Evaluate contractor performance and drive accountability
Commissioning & Startup Support
  • Support commissioning and startup planning activities
  • Coordinate pre-commissioning, turnover, and operational readiness activities
  • Support first fire, synchronization, and performance testing efforts
  • Ensure achievement of commercial operation and contractual milestones
  • Coordinate successful project turnover to operations teams
Health, Safety & Environmental Leadership
  • Promote a strong safety culture and zero-incident mindset
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA requirements and company safety standards
  • Support environmental compliance throughout construction and startup
  • Drive continuous improvement in project safety performance
Stakeholder Management
  • Interface with executive leadership, regulators, customers, contractors, and community stakeholders
  • Deliver project updates, executive presentations, risk assessments, and performance reports
  • Build strong relationships across internal and external project teams
