Job description

1. Promote a safe, cooperative and professional health care environment to ensure optimum patient care (as per HR Policy 113c).

2. Adheres to all hospital policies, procedures, rules and regulations, including but not limited to, absenteeism, ETIME, cellular telephone usage, dress code and rules of conduct.

3. Makes Customer Service a priority, treating customers (patients, visitors, and co-workers) in a professional manner exercising courtesy and tact. Effectively communicates with patients and others about SBH services in their area(s) of expertise or responsibility and ensures that concerns, questions or issues reach the right person(s) in SBH in a timely fashion.

4. Maintain adequate level of supplies and instruments in each operatory.

5. Maintain the operatories in hygienic and functioning order. Inform supervisor of non working equipment.

6. Give health care instructions to patients as well as take blood pressure and pulse.

7. Assist the doctors in direct patient care situations. This may include greeting and seating patients, preparation of all materials and instruments needed to carry out procedures, perform four-handed dentistry.

8. Prepare and set up clinic for day's use and ensure clinic is clean and tidy throughout the day.

9. Assist clinicians by anticipating their needs during clinical procedures - ensuring practice flow is maintained.

10. Assist in IV sedations.

11. Epic/Wisdom training as needed

12. Assist in the efficient transition of new Dr's and/or dental assistants to ensure better acclimation to the office.

13. Maintain an updated file of continuing education courses. Minimum is 12 hours annually and includes passing CPR course.

14. Work with dentist to insure patient payment prior to initiation of work.

15. Be proficient in the Dentrix system, including scheduling, charting, taking digital x-rays and documenting such in Dentrix.

16. Work as a team player and able to multitask efficiently.

17. Utilize downtime productively.

18. Participate in selected duties including distribute supplies to clinic, clean developer and laboratory, cover patient flow on the floor, assist in instrument sterilization, maintain code cart.

19. Be responsible for returning all items (hand pieces, endo system, and laser) in proper working order.

20. Notifying the supervisor about equipment problems or supply issues.

21. Works with patients of all ages.

22. Preforms doctor order request and adding results in EPIC. (Glucose, pregnancy test ex...)

  2. License(s) Required - Certified and/or registered dental assistant preferred.
  3. Experience/Skills Required - One year experience in a private practice or clinic setting.
