Assistant Controller – Chicago, IL (100% In-Office)

Salary: $100K–$150K DOE

Growing Firm seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls for a professional services environment. This role manages day-to-day finance functions, leads the close process, and provides insights to support business decisions and growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee general ledger, AP/AR, and monthly/annual close processes
  • Prepare accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Manage billing, invoicing, collections, and revenue cycle performance
  • Assist with budgeting and financial analysis
  • Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance, including trust accounting
  • Oversee payroll and benefits administration
  • Lead and develop accounting staff
  • Improve systems, processes, and reporting capabilities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent experience
  • 5–7 years of accounting experience, including 3+ years in a supervisory role
  • Strong GAAP knowledge and advanced Excel skills
  • Experience with accounting systems
  • Law firm or professional services experience preferred
