Job description

    The Construction Support Engineer is responsible for performing or checking designs and erection drawings of assigned deliverables on CB&I Storage Solutions projects. The work includes among other things, constructability studies, layouts, design calculations, erection material, fall protection, specification development and construction documents. Over the course of time, capabilities for plate structures design engineering must increase as level of complexity of assignments increases and expectations expand for working independently with less supervision.

  • Formulate constructability plans for erection of standard and complex CB&I Storage Solutions structures.
  • Perform detailed lifting and rigging analysis including calculations, drawings, specifications and procedures.
  • Determine ground bearing pressures on soil and design "matting" as required.
  • Be able to understand and work with the interpretation of geotechnical investigation reports.
  • Design lifting attachments and check the stresses in the component being lifted.
  • Perform lifting calculations and drawings using jacking methods to lift structures.
  • Design lifting devices to AISC, OSHA and ASME B30-BTH.
  • Understand and be able to work with ASME B30 documents.
  • Design temporary support structures.
  • Design of fall protection systems and anchor points.
  • Design of access equipment.
  • Collaborate with drafters, modelers and detailers, as well as personnel from sales, estimating, engineering, operations and project management.
  • Travel to project sites to assist in execution of tasks.
  • Provide reviews of engineering's designs for assessments on the constructability of the project.

  • 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • BS in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited school is preferred.
  • EIT or working toward obtaining EIT, and then a professional engineering license is preferred.
  • Experience with storage tanks and/or pressure vessel design is desired
  • Professional Engineering license in at least one state is preferred
