Job description


2026 - 2027 School Year
Position Description:
The Hampshire High School Marching Band is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill the role of Color Guard Coach. Applicant must have performing and teaching experience in flag work at a high school level (time in collegiate, winter guard, or drum corps is highly recommended). Applicant must be able to choreograph and teach flag work for students at varying levels of experience, organize and coach weekly sectionals with student leadership, and collaborate and take direction from head band director and/or other staff and parent organizations.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES/REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:







  • Minimum of one year of coaching experience in color guard or related areas is highly preferred. Experience in Drum Core and/or collegiate level is required.
  • Ability to coach students at varying levels of experience and adapt instruction to meet individual needs.
  • Choreograph and teach flag work effectively, ensuring students are well-prepared for performances.
  • Organize and coach weekly sectionals with student leadership to enhance skill development and teamwork.
  • Collaborate and take direction from the head band director and other staff to align color guard activities with the marching band's goals.
  • Communicate with band director and/or Athletic Director to secure facilities for weekly practices.
  • Enhance, improve, and maximize students' athletic skills required to compete at a high level.
  • Assist in fundraising efforts, organization of equipment, and other tasks directed to maximize achievement of students and ensemble.
  • Organizes and oversees specific program levels or areas of responsibility.
  • Supports the philosophy, programmatic instruction of sequential fundamentals, and proper conditioning communicated by the head coach.
  • Communicates and plan with the head coach practice sessions and competition strategies to ensure the health and physical well-being of the student participants.
  • Assist the band director in planning for seasonal performances and events.
  • Assures that all student participants at his/her program level are in compliance with D300 and IHSA requirements including current athletic physical, Code of Conduct, fees paid, and is academically eligible, prior to practice, tryout, and competition.
  • Models and instills the values of sportsmanship and fair play to all participants, and enforces consequences for breach of such standards.
  • Attends all student-athlete practices, and games, and monitors proper supervision at all practices, games, and on school-provided transportation.
  • Maintains and provides the head coach with end-of-season individual and team records and statistics.
  • Participate in a mandatory preseason camp, parent meetings, performances, and other events to foster communication and support from the community.
  • Assists the head coach in planning for the seasonal recognition program.
  • Facilitate the orderly distribution and upkeep of uniforms and equipment
  • Engages in personal professional development activities.
  • Other Duties as assigned by the Head Coach and/or Athletic Director
