Job description

DESCRIPTION

The Part-Time Debate Coach will mentor high school students in our expanding forensics program and reports to the Head Debate Coach.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Travels to and judges at local, state, and/or national circuit tournaments, either in California or throughout the country, monthly (reasonable airfare, hotel, and meal expenses covered).
  • Assists in planning the team competition strategy and with the event logistics at competitions (help reserve airfare and hotel accommodations).
  • Aids in research and case-building, attends in-person weekly practices, and leads debate drills.
  • Prepares and delivers lectures regarding current issues and events. 
  • Provides approximately ten hours of tutoring per week.
  • Represents the school at meetings and other official administrative functions with area coaches.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent must be able to do the following: stand for extended periods; sit for extended periods; bend and reach for filing and other job-related functions; climb up and down stairs; bend, stoop, and lift to move and retrieve materials; pull, push, and lift; reach both above and below shoulder height.  Specific visual abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  Must be able to visually inspect work.  Manual dexterity to operate a computer and other office equipment is required.

Salary Range: $30 an hour (part-time)

REQUIREMENTS

  • A bachelor’s degree is not required but preferred.
  • Must have 3-4 years prior competitive experience in Public Forum, Policy, and/or Lincoln-Douglas debate formats
