Job description

Location: Stevenson, MD
Compensation: $35–$50/hour, depending on experience
Commitment Level: Part-time, live-out, temporary/seasonal contract
Guaranteed Hours: 25 hours
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 3:00pm–8:00pm
Start Date: September 10, through approximately December 23 (flexible on start and end dates)

Position Overview

A household in Stevenson, Maryland is seeking an experienced Part-Time Chef/Cook to prepare fresh, simple, home-cooked dinners Monday through Friday this fall. The household consists of three adults and one child, and dinner is served at 6:30pm. The ideal candidate takes pride in straightforward, well-executed cooking — roast chicken, grilled steak, fish, simple pasta, soups, seasonal vegetables, rice and grains, and salads — and enjoys sourcing quality ingredients. This is a hands-on role that includes daily grocery shopping, cooking, and full kitchen cleanup, so reliability, cleanliness, and organization are essential. This is a fixed-term contract engagement running through late December, and the family is looking for someone warm, positive, and dependable for the duration.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and prepare simple, fresh, home-cooked dinners to be served at 6:30pm each weekday
  • Handle daily grocery shopping, sourcing from vendors with the freshest available ingredients
  • Complete full kitchen cleanup after dinner service: dishes, wiping counters and stovetop, running the dishwasher, taking out trash, and vacuuming the kitchen floor
  • Maintain the refrigerator, freezer, and cupboards in clean, organized condition — rotating older items, wiping shelves, and discarding expired products
  • Communicate proactively with the family regarding menus, preferences, and grocery needs
Requirements
  • Demonstrated experience cooking for a family, or in a comparable setting such as a church kitchen, school, senior community, or similar food service environment
  • Strong command of simple, fresh, from-scratch cooking across proteins, vegetables, grains, and salads
  • Exceptional reliability, punctuality, and consistency
  • High standards of cleanliness, kitchen hygiene, and organization
  • Comfortable managing grocery shopping independently and working within household guidelines
  • Positive, warm, professional demeanor
  • Must be able to provide 3–5 professional references
