Job description

Border States Paving is now hiring for the 2026 Construction Season!

Job Summary: Perform labor work related to dirt/grading and asphalt. May operate small equipment; shovel and rake asphalt; place string line and temporary lane markers; assist with plant moves, dump trucks and do clean up. Take instruction from Foreman/Superintendent and assist skilled workers as needed. The highest quality of workmanship is expected in assigned paving projects while working in a safe, productive and professional manner.

Physical Demands: The physical demand characteristics described here are those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to lift, push, pull, bend, twist, use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to talk and hear and to occasionally walk short distances (sometimes over uneven ground) and stand, squat and kneel. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Vision abilities required are close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.

Working Conditions: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work is regularly performed in outside weather conditions including rain and extreme heat. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, vibration, dust and asphalt. The noise level in the environment is usually moderate to loud.

Experience: HS diploma or equivalent GED required: minimum one season of road construction helpful. Working knowledge in asphalt laydown is a plus.
