Instructor - Adult Basic Education (County Jail Sites)

Job Summary:
WEST ABE is a consortium of educational sites within school districts and four county jails (Benton, Mille Lacs, Stearns, and Wright) to help adults acquire basic skills.  Monticello is the fiscal agent. For more information, visit https://westabe.monticello.k12.mn.us/
The ABE at the county jail site is a safe computer lab where inmates can get help with their reading, writing, math, job, and computer skills. Position requires confidentiality, testing, monthly attendance and record keeping and requests an individual who is flexible, independent and responsible. Substitute a year-round position, with the possibility for additional hours. Paid professional development and training.  Background check and annual online training required for this position. 






Certification and Experience:

  • Current standard teaching license for the State of Minnesota
  • Previous experience teaching within an adult basic education program, and working with diverse students and families, is preferred.
  • Pass Background Check
  • Previous experience working with Community Education/adults preferred

Essential Skills Required: 

  • Computer skills required, knowledge of MS Office/Google or comparable
  • Strong leadership and time management skills required
  • Understanding on CCRS and GED requirements
  • Effective decision-making skills while acting within the district policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and staff
  • Maintain confidentiality of information about students, families and staff
  • Experience working with diverse students and families
