Job Summary:

The Swing Sales Representative is responsible for supporting the sales team by providing temporary route coverage and merchandising support on a “swing” basis for an extensive wine, beer, and non-alcoholic portfolio in a specific coverage territory.

  • Communicate with Sales Rep and/or Sales Supervisor for special instructions regarding the route to be covered.
  • Survey the store for product needs in main selling area, cold box and out-of-aisle displays.
  • Stock shelves, cold box and displays with product from delivery or backroom storage area.
  • Review date codes when stocking beer/non-alcoholics and rotate product as required.
  • Review vintage dates and label changes when stocking wine. Rotate product as required.
  • Order product to fill shelves, cold box and displays as directed by Sales Supervisor.
  • Transmit and verify orders in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Enhance appearance of all company products by pulling merchandise forward on shelves, facing labels to front and repacking product in correct carriers as needed.
  • Dust product as needed.
  • Organize back stock inventory at accounts and work to floor on a regular basis.
  • Ensure that all POS is hanging over correct product and is clean and readable.
  • Communicate out–of-stocks, missing POS, pricing errors and other problems to Sales Representative and/or Sales Supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Maintain positive professional relationships with owners and buying personnel at accounts.
  • Check company communications (voice mail/text/e-mails) at regular intervals throughout the day.
  • Assist Customer Service as needed in a timely, professional manner.
  • Adhere to account call frequency and sequence to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Adhere to work safety guidelines established at each account.
  • Assist account’s customers as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Territory: This position covers accounts throughout Central/Western Maine (Lewiston/Oxford/Topsham). The incumbent must live within the territory.

Position Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of beer, wine, and non-alcoholic trade, sales & strategic marketing in the beverage industry.
  • Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proven analytical decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated business math skills.
  • Time management skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Commitment to quality and willingness to work as part of a team.
  • Valid Maine driver’s license and safe driving record.
  • Professional appearance.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours as needed including late nights and weekends.


Physical Requirements:

  • Regular and sustained periods of strenuous physical exertion requiring ability to lift, carry and position objects using proper body mechanics (10 to 15 pounds consistently and 25 to 40 pounds occasionally).
  • Significant periods of time spent in a vehicle, traveling to accounts within assigned territory.
  • Exposure to a variety of environmental conditions: weather, temperature, lighting and noise as determined by circumstances at accounts within assigned territory.
