Job description

Our division works on some of the most complex financial challenges and transactions in the market today. Whether advising on a merger, providing financial solutions for an acquisition, or structuring an initial public offering, we handle projects that help clients at major milestones. We work with corporations, pension funds, financial sponsors, and governments and are a team of strong analytical thinkers who have a passion for producing out-of-the-box ideas.
The Capital Solutions Group within Global Banking & Markets is looking for an Associate to join our growing data center finance team within Infrastructure and Real Asset Finance. The team advises, structures, and executes complex financings for data center developers and users across project finance loans and project bonds, including principal lending investments. The team operates across the AI and digital infrastructure ecosystem, working closely with our classic investment banking, power financing, chip financing, ABS, CMBS, leveraged finance, equity capital markets, and risk management teams to offer solutions to clients across the capital structure.
Responsibilities
The Associate role in data center finance combines elements of classic investment banking, project finance, real estate finance, and credit investing. Associates leverage analytical and transaction execution skills while developing a deep understanding of the data center sector, infrastructure development, and asset-backed finance. They are integral members of lean project teams and will take ownership in reviewing financing opportunities, developing models and analyses, managing transaction processes, and working across coverage and product teams on concurrent projects. Associates have opportunities to engage directly with clients, gain exposure to senior leadership, and build significant product and sector expertise in a short time.
Associates will work closely with senior bankers to:
  • Execute financing transactions for data center development projects, including project finance / construction loans, bridge loans, and project bonds.
  • Advise developers and hyperscalers on data center strategy, including the structuring of major projects and financing alternatives.
  • Analyze key project documents including data center leases, development agreements, and power agreements.
  • Build and audit detailed financial models and perform credit and returns analyses.
  • Coordinate transaction diligence with external parties (counsel, consultants, technical advisors, appraisers, environmental and insurance advisors) and internal stakeholders.
  • Prepare client materials, investment committee memos, lender / investor presentations, and rating agency materials.
  • Manage and mentor Analysts.
  • Support deal origination and client relationships, including market monitoring, idea generation, and contributing to client coverage and product strategy.

Expertise and Skills
Basic Qualifications
  • Candidate must have completed an undergraduate degree and be available to start immediately (subject to any notice period required by their current employer, if applicable)
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in Investment Banking / M&A, Project / Infrastructure Finance, Structured / Asset-Backed Finance, Real Estate Finance, or related credit investing and underwriting roles
  • Experience with financial modeling and transaction execution in complex financing situations

Preferred Qualifications / Qualities
  • Experience working on development financings and complex structured transactions, and/or familiarity with data centers or similar infrastructure.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with high attention to detail
  • Strong modeling and financial analysis expertise, including construction / project finance modelling
  • Strong communication skills with ability to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks and projects, form independent judgments, and move transactions forward in a fast-paced setting
  • Entrepreneurial attitude and drive, with a strong ownership mindset and team orientation
