Job description

Job Title: Dimensional EngineerJob Description

The Dimensional Engineer analyzes complex dimensional data to ensure that tooling, equipment, and manufacturing processes consistently meet dimensional compliance requirements. This role works closely with production, maintenance, suppliers, and other stakeholders to identify trends, determine root causes of dimensional issues, and implement effective corrective actions. The Dimensional Engineer supports and deploys established quality standards and methodologies, leverages advanced dimensional analysis systems, and contributes directly to process optimization in a highly automated manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze dimensional data to identify trends, root causes, and areas for improvement in manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with production, maintenance, suppliers, and other stakeholders to resolve dimensional issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Support and deploy quality standards and methodologies, including BIQ IV, the 6 Pillars of Quality, and process control plans.
  • Utilize dimensional analysis systems such as GDIS and Dimensional Data Manager to monitor performance and track long-term trends.
  • Lead or support projects related to tooling, equipment, and manufacturing processes to achieve and maintain dimensional compliance.
  • Work hands-on with skilled trades personnel to support tooling adjustments, equipment improvements, and process optimization.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within a highly automated body shop environment, including projects involving new and upgraded robotic equipment.
  • Document findings, recommendations, and corrective actions related to dimensional performance and communicate them clearly to relevant stakeholders.
Essential Skills
  • Experience working in a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency with coordinate measuring machines (CMM) and related dimensional measurement tools.
  • Strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Experience with 3D scanning and measurement systems, including one or more of the following: CMM, ENOS, Perceptron, FARO, or ScanWorks.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze dimensional data to identify trends and root causes.
  • Experience supporting or implementing process control plans and other quality methodologies.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including production, maintenance, suppliers, and skilled trades.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a minimum of 4 years of relevant dimensional or manufacturing experience.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience using dimensional analysis systems such as GDIS and Dimensional Data Manager.
  • Familiarity with BIQ IV and the 6 Pillars of Quality.
  • Hands-on experience supporting tooling adjustments and equipment improvements in a manufacturing setting.
  • Exposure to highly automated manufacturing environments, particularly body shop operations with robotics.
  • Demonstrated ability to support projects that enhance dimensional compliance and process optimization.
  • Interest in career growth opportunities within engineering, manufacturing, or leadership roles.
Work Environment

This role operates primarily in a production and manufacturing environment (approximately 75% of the time) and partially in an engineering office setting (approximately 25% of the time). The position supports the body shop group within a highly automated department that is actively bringing in new robots and upgrading existing equipment. Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times in production areas, including safety glasses, high-visibility vests, and arm covers. The facility is a large-scale automotive manufacturing site with thousands of employees and extensive operations across a broad campus. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity that offers strong potential for advancement, with many individuals progressing into other departments or leadership roles as they demonstrate strong performance.
