Job description

Job Title: Mobile Android Developer (Jetpack Compose & Kotlin)
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced, high-performing Mobile Android Developer to join our engineering team on a contract basis. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining core features for our flagship consumer mobile application. You will work within a modern, multi-module architecture utilizing Jetpack Compose and reactive programming patterns to deliver seamless, high-performance shopping experiences to millions of users.
This is a 100% remote opportunity for an engineer who excels in fast-paced, large-scale consumer app environments. You will write clean, production-ready code, implement robust unit and UI test suites, and collaborate closely with product, design, and backend teams. If you possess deep expertise in modern Android development and a passion for crafting exceptional mobile user experiences, we want to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
App Development & Feature Engineering
• Modern UI Development: Design and build scalable, responsive user interfaces utilizing Jetpack Compose and modern Android UI design principles.
• Architecture & Code Quality: Implement and maintain clean architecture patterns (MVVM) within a robust multi-module Gradle build structure.
• Core Functionality: Integrate RESTful APIs via Retrofit, manage local data caching with Room, and handle asynchronous operations using Kotlin Coroutines and Flow.
• Dependency Management: Utilize Hilt for efficient, scalable dependency injection across the application codebase.
Testing & Performance Optimization
• Automated Testing: Write and maintain comprehensive unit tests and UI tests (utilizing frameworks such as JUnit and MockK) to ensure high code quality and prevent regressions.
• Performance Tuning: Monitor, diagnose, and optimize app performance, memory management, render times, and network efficiency.
• Code Reviews: Participate actively in code reviews, enforce engineering best practices, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the mobile team.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
• Experience Baseline: Minimum of 4+ years of professional experience in native Android application development, with a strong portfolio of consumer-facing production apps.
• Technical Mastery:
oExpert-level proficiency in Kotlin and modern Android development paradigms.
oHands-on production experience building UIs with Jetpack Compose.
oDeep understanding of MVVM architecture, Coroutines & Flow, and asynchronous programming.
oStrong experience with dependency injection using Hilt.
oProficiency in local data persistence (Room) and network communication (Retrofit).
oDemonstrated experience with multi-module Gradle project setups and modularization strategies.
oFamiliarity with unit and UI testing frameworks (JUnit, MockK, Espresso/Compose UI Testing).
oVersion control fluency with Git.
• Operational Flexibility: Ability to work remotely while actively supporting and collaborating across US time zones (EST, CST, and PST business hours).
• Core Competencies: Strong problem-solving abilities; excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work independently and deliver production-ready features in a fast-paced Agile environment.
Preferred Attributes
• Prior experience developing features for large-scale consumer eCommerce or transactional mobile applications.
• Familiarity with CI/CD mobile pipelines (Bitrise, GitHub Actions, or similar) and automated app deployment workflows.
