Job description

Job Title: Tester

Job Description

The Tester plays a hands-on role in inspecting large radiator and coil units for leaks using hoists and water or liquid baths in a manufacturing environment. This position involves frequent heavy lifting, working with liquids and chemical flushing processes, and performing visual inspections to ensure quality before units move to production or final assembly. The role offers the opportunity to learn how to patch small defects and potentially progress into a more technical brazing position while working closely with a skilled team.

Responsibilities

  • Lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and safely move heavier loads using hoists and other handling equipment.
  • Use hoists to lower large radiator and coil units into water or liquid baths to test for leaks.
  • Perform thorough visual inspections of units during and after testing to identify leaks or defects.
  • Handle and operate chemical flushing processes in accordance with established procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Work directly with liquids during testing, including managing units that may leak and become wet during removal from the testing bath.
  • Document and communicate test results, defects, and quality issues clearly to team members and supervisors.
  • Collaborate closely with the brazing and repair team to communicate what is needed to fix identified issues.
  • Learn and apply techniques to patch small defects on units as part of the quality correction process.
  • Consistently move and test all finished coils to ensure they are ready to be returned to production or sent to final assembly.
  • Follow established manufacturing processes and quality assurance standards throughout all testing activities.
  • Participate in daily shift meetings to receive and share important information related to production, quality, and safety.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while working around liquids, chemicals, and heavy equipment.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted on a regular basis.
  • Comfort working with hoists and other material-handling equipment.
  • Mechanical aptitude to understand how radiator and coil units function and how to test them effectively.
  • Experience or strong capability in inspection and visual quality checks in a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to follow established manufacturing processes and quality assurance procedures.
  • Comfort working with and around chemicals used in flushing and testing processes.
  • Willingness to work in conditions involving liquids, potential splashes, and getting wet during testing activities.
  • Strong communication skills to clearly share findings and issues with team members and supervisors.
  • Ability to work consistently and efficiently in a production setting, handling a steady flow of units for testing.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Background in manufacturing processes, particularly in process-driven or technical manufacturing environments.
  • Experience in production, quality assurance, or inspection roles in a manufacturing setting.
  • Familiarity with hoist operation and safe material handling practices.
  • Interest in learning brazing techniques and advancing into more technical roles over time.
  • Ability to adapt to working at different facilities as needed.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality.
