Job description

Purpose of NDI New Mexicoย Teaching Artist Apprentice:ย 

This roleย is responsible forย learning and delivering the NDI New Mexico In-school curriculum and teachingย methodologyย through our classes in the public schools, helping children and youth develop confidence and character through dance. Training takes place under the supervision of a master instructor in our award-winning curriculum and the core competencies of the NDI New Mexico pedagogy. Instructors are creative partners with a team of teaching artists and musicians to create choreography and lead public school students to success in their culminating performances. The Apprentice is responsible to their Program Artistic Director(s) for carrying out the mission and the policies of the organization.ย 

Primary Responsibilities:ย 

Teaching and Choreographyย 

ยท Training period includes paid apprenticeship learning under the guidance of a masterย teacher, andย participating in training and enrichment workshops to learn the pedagogy and build teaching skills. Schedule can range from 3-12 hours/weekย 

ยท Prepares assignments and lesson plans for classes as directed by leadย teaching artistย 

ยท Works collaboratively with teaching and music team to create choreography for outreach programsย 

Production Supportย 

ยท Works backstage in support of culminating performances for programsย 

General Artistic Duties:ย 

ยท Attends all enrichment workshops and staff meetings as neededย 

ยท Follows NDI New Mexico program curriculum set by program directorย 

ยท Provides program director with required materials and information as neededย 

ยท Subbing classes when availableย 

ยท Other duties as needed and mutually agreed uponย 

Working Conditions, Environment and Physical Requirements:ย 

ยท Requires weekend and evening hoursย 

ยท Requires extensive physical movement, dance, high energy, and staminaย 

ยท In applicable programs performs functions in a variety of environmentsย including:ย NDI New Mexico offices, schools, residency sites, and other locationsย 

ยท In applicable programs may require reimbursable in-state travel to NDI New Mexico locations, participating schools, residency sites, and community events.
