We are seeking a driven and talented Senior Enterprise Cloud Engineer to join a diverse team with a wide breadth of technical knowledge. This individual will bring a passion for technology, a competent virtualization skill set, and an ability to deploy and configure production-ready solutions, services and tools for our IT workloads using best practices and automation wherever possible. This position will play a pivotal part in the University's Infrastructure Services. The Senior Cloud Engineer is a hands- on individual, assisting in the development and deployment of enterprise environments. The engineer will have opportunities to be involved at all stages of the project - governance, development, and operations. Serve as project manager for projects associated with enterprise solutions, including working with internal and external stakeholders, recommending best-fit solutions, and monitoring of emerging technologies.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree with four (4) years related experience; Associate degree with six (6) related experience; High School or equivalent with eight (8) years related experience. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered. 
Preferred Education and Experience
BS degree with minimum 7 years of experience working directly with complex technological environments. Enterprise architectural understanding from compute resources, networking, security, data protection, data governance and design to deployment and complete system lifecycle. Cloud certifications (AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert). Experience with cloud deployment, database architecture, networking, enterprise storage, data protection, and security architecture including but not limited to EC2, ECS, VPC, S3, DynamoDB, RDS, Azure blob, Storage networking protocols, SMB/NFS File, etc. Experience with deployment and functionality of container services (e.g.: Docker, Kubernetes, Container Service). Experience working in an educational research environment a plus. Solid understanding of software design, software development, IP networking, Linux, Agile development, SCRUM, application/system lifecycle management, Microsoft Azure, Amazon AWS, GCP, VMware, Nutanix, and data protection experience. Experience with Ansible/AWX, Terraform, CloudFormation, and/or PowerShell leveraging an automation approach.
Ability to coordinate efforts of junior level staff and manage projects independently. Ability to assess efficiencies and make adjustments/recommendations for improvement. Good understanding of various operating systems, OS vulnerabilities and patching, third party application vulnerabilities and patching. Good troubleshooting methodology and awareness of industry standards. Good technical and problem- solving skills, good communication skills, works well with limited supervision. Analytical in troubleshooting complex issues and attain root causes analysis. Ability to produce technical documentation and training materials for training, knowledge bases, and RCA. Experience in Cloud costs optimization and managing workloads in public and private cloud environments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Understand project scope, timelines, objectives and direction of overall enterprise virtualization environment.
Engineer and deploy enterprise solutions using automation where possible, assess existing application integrations and suggest services for applicability.
Work directly with other team members, customers and key stakeholders to understand functionality, scalability, performance, security, and data integration requirements.
Produce well-written technical project documentation. Write, or contribute to, operational long-term environment support such as Methods of Procedures and Knowledge base articles.
Participate in collaborative sessions to evaluate the architectural platform for any services or systems. Monitoring and managing the health of the enterprise environment.
Subject matter expert to guide departmental, external and internal, initiatives as well as mentor junior engineers.
