Job Description

AECOM’s Disaster Recovery Division is seeking Temporary and Emergency Sheltering Specialists to join our team to develop our On-Call Cadre. The cadre is designed to build a roster of qualified candidates for temporary assignments. Placement is not immediate and will occur based on operational need

Temporary and Emergency Sheltering Specialists will assist with providing temporary emergency shelters and coordinate safe accommodations for disaster affected individuals. Candidates must be willing and available to deploy on short notice, as needed.

The Temporary and Emergency Sheltering Specialist duties include:

  • Support the activation of temporary and emergency sheltering operations.
  • Monitor shelter for compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and partners to support shelter operations and resource allocation.
  • Assist with shelter facilities set up, including equipment supplies, and staffing needs.
  • Support logistics planning, including transportation, supply distribution, and inventory tracking.
  • Ensure sheltering plans and standard operating procedures (SOP) are implemented and followed.
  • Provide on-site support as needed.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • High School and 2+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of relevant emergency management experience
  • Experience working in an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) or in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal disaster recovery markets.
  • Experience supporting large-scale disaster response or mass are operations
  • Knowledge of accessibility and functional needs support in sheltering environments.
  • Knowledge of Federal Emergency Management Agency Public Assistance (FEMA PA) policy.
  • Possess flexibility to respond to and manage different tasks, often with competing priorities.
  • Advanced time management skills which utilize high-level strategies in managing time, productivity, and effectiveness.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and coordination skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and extended deployments as needed. Extended hours and rapid response may be required during activations.
