Job description

JOB TITLE: GROUNDS KEEPER

The Grounds Keeper is responsible for the general maintenance and care of the school's outdoor spaces. This position involves performing routine landscaping tasks to ensure the campus is clean, safe, and visually appealing.

JOB TYPE: 12- month, full time (temporary to perm) & as needed, hourly, non-exempt
LOCATION: Our Lady of Good Counsel High School, Olney, Maryland 20832
REPORTS TO: Grounds Supervisor


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform routine landscaping tasks such as mowing, trimming, weeding, planting, and watering.
  • Maintain athletic fields, common ground, and other outdoor facilities.
  • Assist with seasonal tasks, including snow removal, leaf collection, and storm cleanup.
  • Operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment, including mowers, trimmers, and irrigation systems.
  • Monitor outdoor areas for safety hazards and report issues to the Grounds Supervisor.
  • Support school events by preparing and cleaning outdoor spaces.
  • Support traffic management and logistics for carpool/events.
  • Follow safety protocols and maintain compliance with environmental standards.
  • Other job duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in grounds maintenance or landscaping, preferred.
  • Ability to operate and maintain grounds equipment safely.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean environment.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Reliable and self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Outdoor environment with exposure to seasonal weather conditions.
  • Physical work involving standing, bending, lifting, and operating equipment.
  • Flexible scheduling to accommodate school activities and maintenance needs.

REQUIRED WORK HOURS: Full-time (temp to perm) with late weekday and weekend hours for facilities support for after-hours facility rentals and/or school events.
