Temp Front Desk information

What is a temp front desk?

Temp Front Desk jobs are temporary positions where individuals manage the reception area of an office, clinic, or other businesses. Their responsibilities typically include greeting visitors, answering phone calls, managing appointments, and handling basic administrative tasks. These positions are often filled to cover short-term staffing needs, such as during employee absences, busy periods, or special projects. Temp Front Desk roles require strong communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to quickly adapt to new environments. Many people use temp front desk jobs to gain office experience or as a stepping stone to permanent positions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a temp front desk?

To thrive as a Temp Front Desk, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and basic office administration knowledge, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with office software (such as Microsoft Office Suite), phone systems, and scheduling tools is typically required. Excellent communication, professionalism, and adaptability help you provide positive experiences for visitors and staff. These qualities are crucial for ensuring smooth daily operations and creating a welcoming, efficient front office environment.

What are some common challenges faced by temp front desk staff, and how can they be managed effectively?

Temp Front Desk staff often face challenges such as quickly adapting to unfamiliar office environments, learning new procedures on the spot, and handling a diverse range of visitor inquiries. Managing these challenges effectively involves strong communication skills, asking questions when unsure, and maintaining a professional, friendly demeanor under pressure. Staying organized and taking thorough notes can also help ensure a smooth transition between different assignments and teams.

Weekend Front Desk Agent

Staybridge Suites West Des Moines
Part-Time | Approximately 16–24 Hours per Week
Pay: $16.00-$17.00 per Hour | Immediate Opening

Are you someone people can count on to stay calm, solve problems, and make others feel welcome?

Staybridge Suites West Des Moines is looking for a dependable and professional Front Desk Agent to manage our weekend morning guest experience. This is an important guest-facing position for someone who takes pride in providing excellent service, communicates confidently, and can be trusted to handle responsibilities independently after training.

Hotel experience is helpful, but it is not required. We are willing to train the right person who brings strong customer-service skills, reliability, good judgment, and a positive attitude.

Schedule

The following shifts are required:

  • Saturday: 7:00 AM–3:00 PM
  • Sunday: 7:00 AM–3:00 PM

One additional weekday shift from 3:00 PM–11:00 PM may become available. The weekend shifts are the core schedule, and any additional shift would be discussed before being added.

Applicants must be able to consistently work both Saturday and Sunday shifts and arrive ready to begin work by 7:00 AM.

What You’ll Do
  • Welcome guests and provide friendly, professional service
  • Complete guest check-ins and checkouts accurately
  • Answer phones and assist with questions, requests, and hotel information
  • Create, modify, and review reservations
  • Process payments and help maintain accurate guest billing
  • Respond to guest concerns calmly and work toward an appropriate solution
  • Communicate important information to housekeeping, maintenance, management, and the next front desk shift
  • Complete assigned shift responsibilities and hotel checklists
  • Keep the front desk and lobby clean, organized, and welcoming
  • Work independently while recognizing when management assistance is needed
What We’re Looking For

The strongest candidates will be:

  • Consistently dependable and punctual
  • Friendly, composed, and professional with guests
  • Comfortable handling several priorities at once
  • Detail-oriented when working with reservations and payments
  • Able to communicate clearly in person, over the phone, and in writing
  • Comfortable using computers and learning new hotel systems
  • Willing to take ownership of problems instead of passing them along
  • Able to follow procedures while using good judgment
  • Available every Saturday and Sunday from 7:00 AM–3:00 PM

Previous hotel, front desk, retail, restaurant, or customer-service experience is preferred but not required.

Why Join Our Team?
  • Consistent weekend daytime hours
  • Paid, hands-on training
  • Hotel employee travel discounts
  • Support from an experienced hotel team
  • Opportunity to learn reservations, billing, guest relations, and overall hotel operations
  • Opportunity for additional hours and professional growth
  • A position where your reliability and service directly affect the guest experience
Physical Requirements

This position requires standing, walking, and sitting throughout the shift; regularly using a computer and telephone; completing light front desk and lobby tasks; and lifting up to 50 pounds as needed. Essential job duties must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

Apply Today

We are reviewing applications promptly and would like to hire as soon as possible.

Please apply only if you can consistently work both Saturday and Sunday from 7:00 AM–3:00 PM. We are looking for someone who wants to become a dependable part of the team, not someone seeking occasional or temporary weekend work.
