Job description

The HIS Clerk I will perform clerical functions to assist in efficient the operations of the Health Information Services Department.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Performs Electronic document management. Collects, scans and indexes paper documents according to protocol.
  • Handles basic Release of Information (ROI) requests, such as lab and immunizations. Assists the HIS Department and coordinating with clinical staff at satellite clinics in release of information.
  • Checks and inspects internal documents before delivering to requesting clients.
  • Requests information from outside providers and reroutes reports received to appropriate NEMS providers.
  • Handles the exchange of information between NEMS sites and outside providers for their assigned clinics.
  • Copies and faxes medical information; distributes it appropriately.
  • Assists with clerical functions such as answering phone requests in a professional manner.
  • Responsible for mailing results and reminder letters and tracking.
  • Assists HIS Clerk II in:
    • Requesting medical charts from off-site storage and other sites; looking up medical record numbers.
    • Filing documents in EHRs.
  • Performs other job duties as required by manager/supervisor.

  • Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-plus years' experience in Health Information Management highly preferred.
  • Must be able to work rotating Saturdays.
  • Basic knowledge of HIPAA Privacy and Security laws and medical terminology preferred.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft applications.
  • Must be detail oriented and ability to work with minimal supervision and in a team setting.

LANGUAGE:
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently.
  • Fluent in Chinese and Mandarin preferred.
  • Ability to speak other languages are an asset.

STATUS:
This is an FLSA Non-exempt position.
This is not an OSHA high-risk position.
