Your Opportunity
Stantec is seeking a Fire Protection Designer to join our Buildings Engineering team. This role is ideal for a motivated designer with experience preparing fire protection design documents and coordinating building systems within a multidisciplinary project environment.
The Fire Protection Designer will support the development of fire alarm, fire suppression, and special hazard system designs under limited supervision. This position offers the opportunity to work on a variety of project types while continuing to grow technical design, code coordination, and project delivery skills.
Your Key Responsibilities
  • Design fire alarm, fire suppression, and special hazard systems.
  • Review and develop fire alarm and fire protection system plans.
  • Support life safety and building code consulting efforts.
  • Collaborate with a variety of engineering and architectural disciplines.
  • Develop site fire protection features and fire department access plans.
  • Communicate with clients and write technical reports.
  • Under limited supervision, coordinate and prepare schematic design, design development, and construction documents.
  • Assist in spatial coordination with architecture and other engineering systems.
  • Work collaboratively in a cross-discipline environment to produce integrated project documents and ensure integrated design approaches and solutions.

Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Experience in fire suppression, fire alarm, and special hazard system design.
  • Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, and fire protection-related computational programs.
  • Knowledge of ICC and NFPA codes and standards.
  • CFPS, EIT, and/or NICET certification preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with engineers, designers, and project teams.

Education and Experience
  • Associate degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years of related fire protection design experience preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

About the Team
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
Benefits Summary: Regular full-time and part-time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short-term/long-term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave.
